Lies we told ourselves as smokers

16 years ago 0 3307 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
I love the that one " I don't stink!!" I remeber someone told me several years ago that smokers smell and I responed with "Well I don't smell!" and he said I did. WELL  Today I know I did LOL. The biggest and the hardest one for me was I had two sister die from lung cancer. One had quit for over 13 years and dies from lung cancer. The other didn't quit until she found out she had it. So do I quit or do I continue? Big struggle for me. I now am quit becasue it is something I want for myself. Oh, the lies we tell ourselves. The two biggest lies for me were: - I don't stink - I just have a tickle in my throat My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/8/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 141 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,115 Amount Saved: $592.20 Life Gained: Days: 13 Hrs: 1 Mins: 56 Seconds: 25

Another good one BfS, Since my last quit it was: - It allows me to collect my thoughts - It's my weight control program - It's my stress relief - I've got too much stress in my life now, I'll quit later - It helps keep me calm when things are tense - It's my do something when I've got nothing else to do For years I bought one, two or three packs at a time mostly to punish myself because buying them made me feel rediculous. I don't recall the last time I enjoyed a cigarette. The fact of the matter is that smoking caused me more stress than it ever saved me. Having to manage the habit and addiction under increasing restrictions and penalties. Doing something to yourself that you know is harmful and being out of control. I'm perfectly able to collect my thoughts and I'm more calm than I use to be, I don't get spun up as easily or as often. I still get a minor crave when I get bored but I'm working on it. This site is part of that strategy; when I have nothing else to do I'm here. As for the weight, oh well. This required another life change that I was perfectly happy and motivated to make. I'm eating smarter and exercising and the weight thing will also be under control. Dee, I also did that... I never bought cartons... bought 1-2 packs a day because I was always going to quit after that next pack. SURE!!! Crave the Quit! Holy crap, Dee, you weren't just in the closet, you were buried way in back under the broken tennis racquet, the mateless shoe, Grandma's old sweater & the library book the was due 5 years ago! Had to smoke to relax, and anyway I could alway quit after that pack. I never bought a carton of smokes, always bought 1 or 2 packs because I honestly planned to quit everytime I finished those. Then I would go buy just 1 more pack. Can you believe I did this for years. Talk about lying to myself. WOW  Can't believe an intelligent adult could do that to themselves. I had to smoke to relax. It was harder for me to quit than most people because i was more addicted. Life would not be as enjoyable without smoking. Brainwashing, brainwashing by the junkie! new me My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/26/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 2 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 48 Amount Saved: $10.00 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 9 Mins: 6 Seconds: 59

I had to smoke to have any patience & be calm. I couldn't quit because I was too addicted. If I didn't smoke, I'd be in jail because Iwould have killed someone. Everyone else looks ridiculous when they smoke but I look glamourous & sexy.
