Angela - you are going through the first few days when physically it's the toughest. Hang in there and ride it out, it will get better. When you get those craves, remind yourself that your body is ridding itself of toxins and an addictive substance (nicotine, of course). The discomfort or anxiousness you feel is really part of your body healing. Like Healer said, accept the craving or smoking thought. But then tell yourself that you choose not to give in because you don't smoke anymore. Then, tell that craving to go to he**! I know it sounds so simple that it's ridiculous, but it works for me. You have nothing to lose by trying this method. :) Freemom My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/29/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 41 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 502 Amount Saved: $167.28 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 20 Mins: 49 Seconds: 34

Angela - Take lots of breaks. This is the beginning of your journey, so everything will hit a nerve (at least for most of us). Breaks, AND ride a crave like a wave, I always say. Lean into it rather than resisting it. What we resist gets stronger, and becomes more powerful. Always remember that a crave passes w/the clock, so it WILL end, you just hold on tight while you ride it out. Spend every minute you can reading, reading and reading posts here and you will find a map, as it were, to peace and calm. Blessings - hold on tight!! Angela one thing that has helped me is taking a soda straw, cutting it into about 3 "cig size pieces" and then chewing on it when I get one of those of triggers. It helps with the oral fixation as well as something to do with your hands by fooling with it. Sounds kind of dumb but it has helped. I am not doing it much anymore but I still keep it handy. Also it has no calories :) PRB My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/12/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 58 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,759 Amount Saved: $261 Life Gained: Days: 11 Hrs: 9 Mins: 43 Seconds: 7

Thank you all so much for your great advice. I have been reading through so many posts and everyone here is so amazing! You all have been such an inspiration and help to me. It's hard for me to relax b/c that's when I want to smoke! :confuse: I've been trying to keep as active as possible. The airfreshener in the car is such a great idea! I guess I just need to be a little more creative in keeping my mind off of this. Thank you all! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/7/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 2 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 39 Amount Saved: $11 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 4 Mins: 5 Seconds: 40

Angela, What is triggering this? How about relaxation tapes or your favorite CD in the car? After eating get busy or relax! Walking and cleaning to get ahead will help, or start your own relaxation ritual with a hot bath, good magazine or favorite T.V show :) Try using the internet at certain times during the day. Perhaps right before bed to check in or first thing in the morning to get you started. Time yourself and then off you go! You are doing a great job so far, so keep pushing forward and come up with a few plans for those rough times :) Josie _____________________ The SSC Support Team.

Angela, You are doing great just hang in there a few more days. All these things are your triggers so you have to try and change them for now. Go buy yourself a nice airfreshner for you car one that you really like the smell of. I started taking a walk after eating and did the dishes when I got back anything to break the old routine. It will get better I promise you I smoke a pack a day for 30 years and it is so much better being smoke free ;) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/21/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 49 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 991 Amount Saved: $318.5 Life Gained: Days: 6 Hrs: 21 Mins: 28 Seconds: 50

Try switching your routine around a bit. Do something different right after you are done eating. Go for a walk, do the dishes, something that you don't normally do now. Try brushing your teeth right after eating. Try moving your computer to a different place in the room and while driving have a stir stick with you and pretend that is your cig. Hope these help in some way. Keep strong, you can do this! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 69 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,739 Amount Saved: $345 Life Gained: Days: 7 Hrs: 8 Mins: 43 Seconds: 12

Today is going to be terrible but it should be a lot easier tomorrow. Most of us took the easy way out and quit one trigger at a time. I quit smoking in the house first (computer), then in the car, then after about 6 months I quit altogether. It still wasn't easy but it helped. Today is all about determination. You have to be determined you are going to quit. I promise, it will be easier tomorrow.
