Calling All Oldies!

Sheesh, what a blast to the past......all my quit buddies present and accounted for and still nonsmokers!!!! That is so awesome. As Mr. Garcia once said...umm...what a long strange trip it's been. The funny part for me is I really feel like I know you all. I was here everyday :) My news is I will be on a panel next week speaking to a group of people who are quitting smoking and I intend to urge them to sign in here immediately. I will also print out posts that I feel are helpful. If there is something special any of you remember, I'd appreciate a bump. Oh my God, there have been so many. And, of course, I will tell them to get on the computer and gather information as per our Golferman. If this goes well, the American Lung Association is having a training session in June that I plan to attend. This is something I would love to volunteer to do and I have learned SO much that I would love to share. The facilitator that I am working with had never heard about Chantix (nor had I except here). And how many ads do we see on TV for Cialis....now there is asomething important(yes, guys, it really is) but.... nothing about a break thru drug to quit smoking. That tobacco lobby is so powerful. I am so grateful to all of you. I just know I could never have quit on my own. The wisdom and humor took alot of the sting out of it. It's so good to see everyone! It's hard to believe the disconnect after spending so many hours of every day together on this site. We were all SSC addicts at that time. Everyone is popping in. Just LOOK AT OUR METERS! Can you believe it? They have so many days on them. We never thought we could do it and look at us now! AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We are all awesome! Newer quiters... it gets so much better. Join hands with those traveling this quit journey with you and hang on tight. It's quite a ride at times but worth every second of it. There aren't words that can describe the feeling of being free from the enslavement of smoking. Not even the birth of my children compares. The freedom is the most amazing thing I have ever experienced. I smoked for over 23 years and never thought I could quit. I proved myself wrong! Thank goodness! Good Afternoon friends! It's GREAT to see you all here! I hope this note finds you doing well. I miss you! I'm as good as ever. This year I am growing an organic garden, getting ready for my 25 year class reunion and staying busy at the radio station. I would say...Quitting smoking caused me to realize that I can do anything I want if I want it badly enough. I need only stay focused on the goal. Time does the rest. Hi Lady, I'm a sort of "middely" and out of a whole bunch of people who quit in May '06, there only seem to be a couple of us who check in now and again, (hi there D2Q !) But I remember all of the Smobers, 600 - 700 days quit, with great fondness and gratitude because you were the ones giving me a helping hand, a friendly kick in the right direction and most importantly the confidence to remain committed to overcoming nicotine addiction. There is definitely a time to move on, people joke about the addiction to SSC as being malaptive transference but I defy anyone to deny that at some point, the virtual family of the SSC was just as important, if not more so, than our own families in those early days of withdrawal. Go on.... tell the truth and shame the devil!! But there is a sense of loss at times. I regularly see the new "virtual families" forming, storming and then dropping out of sight. But letting go is hard. You know it should happen, like growing up, but it needn't be final and checking back in occasionally isn't a maudlin sign of weakness, surely!! But anyway, to the newbies, I can tell you that at my stage of the quit, almost one year done, I feel there's a sense of balance back in my life. No longer consumed with smoking thoughts, and after 35 years dedicated and heavy smoking I didn't think that would be possible. My concentration is now on weight loss! I'm with Luna in wishing that I'd been a bit more vigilent cos I can't loose it as quick as I gained it !! My best gain, though, is the total freedom from addiction and all the imprisonnment in anxiety that comes with addiction and so all of it was so worth while. Thank you, my virtual family and my best regards to you all. Lilly :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/11/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 347 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 10,428 Amount Saved: 1735 Life Gained: Days: 45 Hrs: 10 Mins: 53 Seconds: 41

I don't suppose I get to be an "oldie" yet, but I don't come aorund very often anymore either, and found this thread just when I was spending a few minutes here. Congratulations Lady on all the progress you've made! Nothing wrong with us spending some time on the pitty pot so long as we don't forget to get off.
