Hi Beaglelvr, I hope the Doc fixed you up and you are breathing correctly now. It seems like everyone should know how to breath because you have done it all your life. I know I am 57 and still haven't learned how to breath. I breath deep but get out of breath doing it. Anywhay congrats on your 3 months and keep kicking ash. Danielle, oh my word. You are the master of understatement. You wrote: "Some individuals do experience a small rise in anxiety levels after they quit." Dear Lord. Then there are those of us who climbed the walls and busted all of the good furniture. And that was before breakfast. LOL! Hi Iwanttobefree and Laura, The breathing exercises have to be practiced. I was doing them sooo wrong and I'm so thankful for our specialist. These ladies have so much on the ball. Once I got the breathing technique down, I didn't feel dizzy or short winded anymore. However, if the breathing exercises do not help you in the long run, you should talk to your doctor. Peace of mind is good medicine. TIPS -Exercising can help to manage your withdrawal easier overall. -Watch your caffeine intake, especially after 6 pm. Drink decaffeinated coffee or herbal teas. -A routine to relax your body at night helps some people fall asleep. Here's another technique that the support specialist posted and it's been so good for me because I'm anxiety prone. This one is to help you to relax and again, you have to practice. Here it is: Tension Releasing: 1) Let go of the tension in your neck and shoulders. 2) Let go of the tension in your jaw. 3) Focus completely on your breathing, nothing else. 4) As you exhale, let your shoulders drop and let your body sink into wherever you are. 5)Repeat this until you feel relaxed and centered. *It's a skill. You may want to practice several times a day to make it a normal part of your routine. I get on step three and I'm about to fall asleep. LOL LOL Keep working with this because it really helps. Anything the specialists post in the way of exercise/tips, I keep in my computer to work on daily. If you are prone to have panic attacks, please check out the panic site that Danielle posted. I've checked it out and it's awesome. Keep us posted on how you're doing. Okay? Stay Strong!! Tutti, Thank you for posting the exercises. Very helpful to all! Beaglelvr, Some individuals do experience a small rise in anxiety levels after they quit. This can be attributed to disturbances in sleeping patterns, increased stress related to cravings and emotional instability. It is temporary and if you need help, we have a sister site: www.paniccenter.net Keep persevering! Danielle ____________________ The PC Support Team

Beagle and Iwanttobefree, Are you sure you're doing the breathing exercises exactly the way the support specialists said to do them? I did them wrong at first and became a little scared because I felt short winded and dizzy. As it turned out, I was inhaling really deep just fine but not exhaling all of the air. I'm going to paste those exercises just below and make sure that you do them the way the support specialist say. You really have to focus on extending that tummy while inhaling. Here's the post: Deep Breathing: 1) Take a slow deep breath in through your nose to the slow count of five. Push your tummy out at the same time. 2) Slowly breathe out through your mouth to the count of 7. 3) Repeat this 3 times, as you feel yourself relaxing and the stress dropping away. Tension Releasing: 1) Let go of the tension in your neck and shoulders. 2) Let go of the tension in your jaw. 3) Focus completely on your breathing, nothing else. 4) As you exhale, let your shoulders drop and let your body sink into wherever you are. 5)Repeat this until you feel relaxed and centered. I posted the slow breathing and tension breathing just in case you need those as well. If this doesn't help, you should see your doctor for a check up.
