I am a Chantix patient

lolo... It is ironic.. You said that you had gone to the doctor for bronchitis and he gave you asthma medcine, I went to the doctor and he said it was a really bad respiratory infection. He didn't say it was broncitis.. but I have had it before and pretty sure that is what I was dealing with. I ended up in the ER with an asthma attack. I have never in my life had an asthma attack... he gave me an inhaler and that was the last straw. I thought to myself.. first an inhaler, then portable oxygen.. I decided then that I had to quit and needed help... That is when I talked to the pulmonary doctor at work and he prescribed Chantix for me... Hoppy... Congrats on your decision to quit smoking!!! I see that you have an April quit date. You might want to check out the thread "April quitters", it is found under "Forum for New Users and General Discussion". it shows that you have three days to go until you quit..Is that right? I want you to know that i know how you feel about being bored. Lets take one day at a time. You know there is something good for you to read... http://www.stopsmokingcenter.net/support/viewmessages.aspx?forum=10&topic=24036 you can copy and paste the link ..As I was going through I couldn't help but laugh at myself...I think some of these are great things to tell yourself...Especially when your driving...You can get some sticky notes and jot a few down and put them on your dashboard! Just a thought. I also started on the starter pack of the chantix....I am going to go through the first month then call the doctor to see what he says to do next. My doctor said he has had a lot of positive respones from his patients. He did say to me that some get sick to their stomach...but not enough to stop using the medicine. I haven't really experienced any upset somach problems...just the things i mentioned before. I was a smoker for 19 years at about a pack a day. I took the medicine and then on this past Tues morning I decided to try and wait having my morning smoke then I tried to wait more..before I new it the morning was over and I decided to see if I could go later....the rest is HISTORY! I have been wanting to quit for a good while now..I ended up going to the doc's cause I had bronchitis and he gave me medicine for ashtma...I told him I am tired of smoking but I know I need help getting off the cigs that I knew I was additcted and I was tired of it.....Remember one day at a time! that is what I have to do...sometimes one hour at a time... :gasp: My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/24/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 2 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 50 Amount Saved: $9 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 4 Mins: 52 Seconds: 48

Lolo--just from reading your posts it sounds like you are very dedicated to ridding yourself of this obsene addition. I started smoking back when Doctors did commercials recommending that"Camels are the most preferred brand". Can you only imagine what a newly landed martian would think when he saw us earthlings stick something in our mouths, set it on fire and then suck the smoke deep down in our lungs? If you stop and visualize this, it really doesn`t make any good sense. Oh well, I`m rambling. Just oppened my second bag of licorice sticks. I think I may be getting addicted to em. Did you talk to a doctor and get a rx. I saw my Doc last Monday and he gave me a sampler kit from Phifzer that is good for one month, then he said to call and he would send out a prescription to continue. From what I am reading most people seem to be on it for 3-4 months. My doctor told me it was ok to smoke the first week and then begin my stop date the second week. I felt quilty continuing to smoke. My previous addiction was 2 packs a day so Monday I smoked 10, Tue 3, yesterday 3, and so far today only 1/4 inch. I have been off work this week but will return next week and what concerns me is I drive my own truck over the road long distant and usually smoke as much as three packs a day because of the boredom of driving. I have been thinking alot about that and how to overcome those urges. I guess I should do what they say and not worry about tomorrow just concenttrate on the here and now. Good luck to you LOLO. Hello Hoppy! Glad to hear from you...Well, I am on day 7 of the medicine and working on day 3 of being a non-smoker! You know what when I smoked I never walked I got to out out breath. Now, yesterday I walked about 1 mile and I wasn't out of air! It felt really good. I also need to take lots--lots of deep breathes during the day. Plus I am drinking more water now than I have ever had in my life. I am grabbing water without even realizing it. I guess my body just knows what it needs finally. The medicine has helped a great deal but remember that you still need to think why you don't want to smoke when the urge gets bad...I always thought my hardest time was in the morning. I use to smoke twice as much then..Now I have come to realize that the evening hours are the hardest...That's when I have found I am craving the most. Go figure! Keep in touch and let me know how you are doing! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/24/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 2 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 49 Amount Saved: $9 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 4 Mins: 46 Seconds: 55

Hey LOLO---How ya doing to-day?? I`m on my third day of Chantix. Tommorrow I will start 2 pills a day. My official quit day is next Monday and will go from .05mg to 1.0 mg. I think I can feel some relief already from the meds. Maybe it`s my imagination. This is by far the best effort I have ever taken to kick this habit or should I say addiction. I`m spending alot of time reading these threads and drinking ice water, and if you say taking a walk will help than I`m gonna do that right now. See Ya!!!! Now it is afternoon....YES! I had a walk today! Boy, did it feel good to take deep breathes. One hour at a time. Exercise--Exercise! I want a flat stomach! I want muscles! I am drinking more water now than I have ever had in my life. I was also addicted to tea. I noticed that I haven't been craving that either. I had one glass yesterday compaired to a half gallon! Water...Water....Water...Is a must. And if you get tired on plain water add a little lemon juice, lime juice, orange juice. Chantix here too. Like Audrey said, it is only an aid. The first day with no smokes is tough, the second day maybe even a little tougher, and the first week isn't called Hell week for nothin'! After the nicotine leaves the body, you are left with all of the habitual cravings to deal with, and the psycho-babble stuff which can be easier, challenging, tough, or enlightening depending upon your outlook. I am coming to the end of my Chantix days, more quickly than I had planned (because I keep forgetting to leave them in my purse) so I am pretty much on one pill per day. I've read that others "wean" themselves from them, so I guess that is what I am doing. Just some sleepiness occasionally, so I am sleeping more than usual. For those who can take the Chantix, I haven't heard a single negative thing about the med. I had very few (if any) side effects, and would not hesitate to recommend it. Good luck, you have the tools and the support, so the rest is up to you. Sorry, don't know about Chantix but you'll find this site a big help with whatever problem you have. I had to play around quite a bit to find out how things worked. I have added you to my 'Buddy' list so if you get the IM working I will leave you a message there. Go to the top of the 'Home'page and click on 'launch' then.... wait. Good luck.
