I HATE the Patch! Help me kill it!

17 years ago 0 7 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Stop using the patch and go cold turkey. You will 'quit' a lot faster and just remember that nicotine withdrawal is a temporary phase of recovery. It doesn't last long and better days....much better days lie ahead. The fantastic feeling of freedom and control you'll get when you successfully beat this addiction is worth every bit of effort you give to quitting, and then some. Good luck. Jonthedj, Please consult your pharmacist. A switch in brands, a decrease in dose or a topical ointment may resolve the skin irritations you are currently experiencing. At this time you can also discuss shortening your length of treatment in a manner that will not threaten your quit. Hope this helps. Danielle _______________________ The SSC Support Team

There are as many ways to quit as there are successful people on this site. I used the gum for three days and decided that I was done with nicotine and that was the end of that. There are lots of folks who quit cold turkey. You decide what's right for you. Cigarettes Not Smoked

Hi Jonthedj, I have quit several times. I have tried many methods. The patch does work well. Just a tip.... I use to put it on my upper butt :p No really. It worked well there. Also... I am a type "A" personality who is always in a rush to get the job done. This is my quit for life.....and it taught me "patience". You will not be done with it all at once. Sort of like dieting. People want to loose 20 years of accumulated fat in 2 weeks and it doesn't work that way. Same with quiting smoking. Slow is better. I Know there is a few people at SSC that did rip the patch off and finished the job cold turkey. Sooooo I guess it can be done that way...but more people fail by not following the program as directed. I also learned there isn't a perfect right way to do this thing. Do what ever works.....so long as you don't smoke (not even one) ever. This time around I used the gum. I am down to a half piece twice a day. Let us know how you are doing. You never know what you will say that helps another person. Hi Jonthedj, I used the patch and also would get a red mark. It went away after a while, I also didn't wear the patch when I went to sleep because it would give me weird dreams. So it kind of gave my skin a break. I had the same attitude as you did about wanting to get off the patch soon. Right now you have 5 days without smoking and hell week is almost over. I just stopped using the patch after 40 days and I stepped down rather quickly. I did 2 weeks on the 21 mg, 2 weeks at 14 mg and about 1 and 1/2 weeks at 7 mg. The only reason I chose to stop the patch was because I forgot to put it on one morning and didn't realize it until I got to work. Anyway it's been 4 days off the patch and the first 2 days felt like I had just quit smoking. My quit was in serious jeapordy and had it not been for this site, letting myself down and not wanting to throw it all away I suffered the pain of withdrawal and made it through. I wouldn't suggest cutting down too quickly. That is only my recommendation you may feel differently but it isn't worth the risk of putting your quit in danger so soon. As to the $20.00 you will see it in time. It is worth every penny to not smoke. Hang in there don't smoke and keep posting!!!! We are all here for you no matter what you decide just don't smoke ok!!! Hey Jon, the redness or rash eases up after the first few days. But I should warn you, a few people have had trouble stepping down too soon. I know how you want to be done with it. I have about a week or so left on my program, and I am at the stage where I have to remind myself to put it on. IT has been a help. Nicotine or not, I am not sure I could have done cold turkey. But If you're wanting to quit for life, Can a few weeks of the patch be that bad? And they are cheaper than cigarettes. Hope this helps. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 55 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,385 Amount Saved: $580.25 Life Gained: Days: 6 Hrs: 16 Mins: 37 Seconds: 8

Ok so I get a lovely red rash type skin irritation every day where I put the patch. And YES I am putting it in a different spot each day. Basically I want to get off this patch. The Brooks brand patch says stay on step 1 for 4 weeks, step 2 for and step 3 for 2 weeks each. My wife ignored this and did 1 step a week and did fine. I want to try that but I dont wanna screw up. I know for me the hardest part is the routine part. Being conditioned to having a smoke at certain times. Im getting past that but as far as the chemical part I dont know. I just HATE theese patches. And $20 a week is eating up my not smoking reward money!
