If you could tell someone just one thing...

The thing that kept me going at the beginning was "One day at a time". When the day was good, I celebrated...when the day was bad, I went to bed early and worried about tomorrow when it happened. Now, I apply that philosophy to the rest of my life and try not to spend too much time stressing about tomorrow when I can be enjoying today. I thought of another one that really helped me in the beginning... Cravings will not kill you... but smoking very well may. Aunt Deb, the acronym N.O.P.E. has been around this site far longer than me... I have NO idea who the originator was, but I'm sure that he/she probably no longer comes to this site. Perhaps Katy or Bubba may know where it came from (since they've been around this site almost since the beginning), but I have no idea. It's a great little acronym, and I wear it everyday (on my bracelet) to remind myself of it. MomMom, I really liked yours especially because it relates to something that I went through after I quit... I suddenly realized that I could do ANYTHING I wanted to do... I mean, it couldn't POSSIBLY be any harder than quitting smoking, so why not give it a try? What a wonderful outlook on life you have! Crave the Quit! Some of my favorites are: "Life is full of Choices - Choose the Best!" Also, "When trouble arises, look it squarely in the eye and say "You cannot defeat me! I Am bigger than this, I will succeed!" but one keeps coming back to my mind "Smoking is not an option" which I learned here, but am not sure from who. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 23 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 583 Amount Saved: $242.65 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 19 Mins: 42 Seconds: 38

To quit smoking is just a starting point of a whole new life. If you can do this, just think what other things you can accomplish! Once you face a trigger, you have decreased its power. The whole "experience all four seasons" concept was helpful for me, even though I live in a climate where there are only about nine days of winter each year. It helped me to know that there would be more, new triggers around the corner and that all I needed to do was to face them and get past them.
