I wish so badly that we were insured. A vendor for my company came in a few months ago to sell me a product and in the course of our meeting it came up that he had just quit smoking (2 days prior) using Chantix and that he felt "okay". He had been smoking for 30 years and had tried to quit numerous times before. He called me about a month ago and said he has been smoke free since our meeting. I was totally impressed and inspired, especially since he has a 2 a day habit. Does anyone know of any programs or anything to help smokers who are finacially "down"? It's crazy enough that we spend so much money on cigs that we don't have, but is there finacial support out there? Just a little thought and hope. You know I work in the Health industry, specially HIV/AIDS services, and there are so many programs and resources available to them. Are there to those that are addicted to cigs as well? Just thought..hmm, wish the system treated nicotine addiction as they do others. Finally, I am so glad I found the support forum. I am inspired and have been educated by reading what you all have posted (and the tools). Thank you!

Hi there kcfangirl. I quit a week ago and was scared also. It seems that being scared is common among quitters. The night before my quit I didn't know if I could do it. I kept saying that I didn't know how to be a non-smoker. At 9:30 that night I smoked my last cig and had one left. I got rid of it and everything that reminded me of smoking. The next morning I was a little down about not having a smoke, but knew that I was doing what was best for my health. It hasn't been easy, but if you have a good plan in place you can make it. This is a great site.. there is a lot of great information here. The people here are very supportive also, and the best thing. They are all going through or have been through exactly what you are going through. There are a lot of things you can use to quit smoking. You could talk to talk with your doctor and see what he/she suggests. I (and many others here) use Chantix... it is a medicine that your doctor can prescribe. It has really worked well for me. It isn't a magic pill by no means, but sure makes it easier. I am really new at all of this, so I am sure that there will be a lot more replies really soon. Let us know how you and your husband are doing... Hi kcfangirl, Welcome to SSC. What's the best way? Probably whichever works for you. There are people here who used the patch, gum, Chantix, and those like me who quit cold turkey. There's no one right way. Whatever method you use, one of the things that can help make you successful is support, and you can get lots of it here. We're all quitters ourselves, at various stages in our quits, and we know how extremely hard it is. Everybody will help you as much as you let them. There's a bunch of good material in the quit program tools over to the left of the screen, and just read, read read through the forums. The more you know, and the better prepared you are, the better your odds are. I'm sure others will have more to say. Good Luck! Check in here, ask questions, yell for help if you need it. I am 28, next Friday 29, and my husband and I have decided to quit smoking. I have been smoking for 10 years and my husband for 18 years. We are both very tired of being tired...and not able to breath! For some time now we have talked about how we would like to quit, but never have actually made a decision to do it. Tonight we committed to looking into methods to quit, tomorrow buying it and Saturday starting. I have tried to quit one time before (about 3 years ago) and only lasted 2 days. I used the patch and had a horrible experience...couldn't sleep, intense cravings, but I know this is all normal. I guess I am here to ask for help and advice and look for support. I understand the "one day at a time" concept and am hoping I CAN keep in the day, hour, minute. PLEASE!!! Any suggestions? I am soooooo scared.
