Why Can't I have Just ONE

17 years ago 0 607 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Why I can't have one puff??? DUH I'm one puff away from a pack a day. I also know if I have one puff I would never quit again. This is a one time shot for me after what hell week put me through. If I had one, I'd buy a carton within 15 minutes even though I know that I can never smoke again. I'd keep trying. I'd keep telling myself "Yeah, that was yesterday, today I can smoke without a problem". Just One means that I smoke until the day I die. I couldn't quit again. So I just hold on to the quit I have. One is too many and a thousand will never be enough. Grace, I can't have one because I'm not willing to go back to my former level of consumption. I'm not willing to give up the days and weeks and months of hard work and effort that it took to get here. I know that if I had one, I might as well just give up everything positive in my life. I would be a junkie again and I would be so ashamed. I just heard an interview with songwriter and singer Leonard Cohen, who gave up smoking five years ago. He said that every now and then, when someone lights up around him, he looks at it "with interest." I am willing to state that TEN years from now, I may "look at it with interest", but that's as far as it will go. I am a non-smoker, regardless of what thoughts might float by. Thanks, Grace, for the opportunity to reinforce that.
