In my dream...

Damn those nasty nightmares! I often feel out of sorts if I've had a strange dream like that - doesn't matter what it was about. It's the old brain just chugging along, sorting stuff out, doing its job. A good reminder of how precious your quit is. Dust yourself off, dear Sammi - you're doing really well. Sammy, Don't worry about those dreams. Dreams are GOOD things. The dreams tell you that your body is healing and teach you that you can handle the non-smoking situation. Sweet dreams....they make you better!! Sammy, a golden star for you !! You're doing so good girl. Don't worry about the emotionel part, that will be coming and going. You are changing in many ways. You are learning how to deal with situations without smoking. Years and years your feelings were not real cause of the poisson in the ciggies. Now you are who you really are and you don't know that person very well....hahaha. I am almost on my year smokefree and I still have emotional days now and then. I reconize it now though and can deal with it. So, there is no worry for you, you're on the right track. Be proud at yourself. Sammi, This is fairly common among quitters. For some it is the result of wearing the patch, for others, it is just their subconscious manifesting the battle they are fighting in reality. Don't worry, the dreams pass. Let them strengthen your resolve. Look how upset you were at the thought of having lost your quit. As for the emotional dip, this too is fairly common and it passes. Until then be very kind to yourself and give yourself plenty of rewards to help lift your mood. Feel better soon. Danielle ______________________ The SSC Support Team

Sammi, That is very cool! Our online quit program is available for download & print if you think it might be helpful to her. With regards to the emotions, yes it will probably come & go. Remember that smoking is described in psychology as an escape/avoidance behavior. What did you escape or avoid when you smoked? Stress? Anxiety? Conflict? Sadness? In time you will learn how to cope with these in a new healthier way. Next time this occurs, you'll know exactly what's happening and who you can lean on to get you through it. ;) Keep persevering! Dreams can be so real... my hubby still laughs because one time I dreamt he was cheatin! I woke up in the morning still mad at him. I had words (not bad or nothing) with him and everything because the feelings were so strong! A few years from now you will be laughing with a newbie about a dream they had and you can let them know how you felt...yeah, yeah, that's why you had the dream...it's just a learning tool for all of us!
