I am so sorry for your husband and for you. I know Try how difficult it is when a loved one gets bad news. When you first get it it's absolutely normal to feel all the emotions you are right now. If it's not too bold of me to ask.. Due to the strokes, did the dr. put him on med's for his heart/cardiovascular system? Did he have any of the tell tale signs of stroke - blurred vision, fatigue, paralyzation of one of the body (including the face)? I think right now Try the best thing for the both of you is to talk about what the dr. said and also remind yourselves of how many blessings you have in your lives. The fact that you both stopped smoking is a blessing in disguise and it may be 30 days stopped - which may not seem to be a lot at this point, it may have been much worse if you both didn't quit when you did. I'm really at a loss for many more words because I am not a dr. of medicine or psychology -- All I do know is that I'm in a situation on a daily basis with a very sick husband and I just do all that I can to make him comfortable, keep his stress levels at a minimum (due to strokes and heart attacks that he's had so far), all foods cooked from scratch and which are very heart healthy ..i.e. lots of fish etc. I'm here for you.. if you have Phil's email, or Denise's..you can get mine from them. Sending you as much support as possible from this small venue. Tryagain, Congratulations on your HUGE 30 DAYS. Hold on tight to your quits as you stay on this journey and it will get better. Your pain brings back grief and pain to me. My husband died from lung cancer. After he was diagnosed he lived 23 days. Such a short time to try and say all the thing you want to say. He had a trek and couldn't talk. So I have pages of things he wrote to me. He was such a gentle man, so to this day I can go back and read all the wonderful things he said from his heart. That way I can never forget or try to remember what he said. I know that it was flusterating for him but oh what a blessing for me. My thoughts and prayers are with the both of you. He had blurred vision in one eye and some passing dizzy spells. He had a CAT scan that didn't show anything so the Dr. suggested an MRI which would show more detail. What he had was a series of very small strokes, hardly noticable, but of a character that normally preceeds a major stroke. Many people have little strokes without even knowing it. Then when a big one happens, its out of the blue, when really it isn't. There were signs. I just hope that we quit in time to avoid catastrophe. He has an appointment for an in office visit (this was just a phone call, an early morning wake up call) to get his medication and instructions on what other life changes he needs to make. I really can't stop crying. He never had as hard a time with his quit as I did with mine. He seemed to breeze through it with only a mild craving once in a long while. He quit cold turkey. I asked him how he was doing it. He said that the night we decided to quit, I was having such a hard time breathing, and coughing so hard, he held me and was so helpless as I struggled for that next breath, he said that was it, he would never have another cigarette and neither would I. He told me that all he had to do was remember that moment and it was enough to take that craving away no matter how bad it was. My cough went completely away in just a few days. We had no idea what was hiding in him. Was it just a short time ago that the day was so golden? Today I can't stop the tears. The final word was stop smoking right now or start making funeral arrangements. You've had a series of small strokes that could mean leading up to a major stroke. We were able to tell him that he quit (with me) a month ago. Quitting when we did might have just saved his life. He will be taking preventive medication. He quit for me, because I couldn't breathe anymore. Now we find out that his smoking was even more life threatening than mine.
