new/set quit date

Hi ace, Wellbutrin, aka Zyban or Bupropion, is a powerful antidepressant drug that many people do tolerate quite well. Others, like myself, respond very badly to it. The first time I tried to quit smoking by using it, I did fine for the first three days. On day four, when I increased the dosage by adding a second pill later in the day, I became totally zonked out. I was a real space cadet until it wore off sometime the next day. Needless to say, that was the end of that attempt to quit. Thank goodness I was at home and not among strangers. This time, in the hopes I wouldn't have a problem if I didn't increase the dosage, my doctor prescribed it again. After four days (on the second day of my quit) I felt it in my system and just stopped using it. I didn't want to have another bad reaction. You will find the will power you need to quit, ace. In the long run you will see that it's all up to you. Even if the medicine helps you get going, it won't make you stop if you don't commit to N.O.P.E (Not One Puff Ever). Sorry, there is no easy way to quit. Hi, Ace -- I'm on Zyban, which I understand is "just like" welbutrin. (Could be the same thing, for all I know...) I was advised to be on the med for 2 weeks before my quit date. (It ended up being a little more than 3, but I figure my body was storing up much-needed reserves of the stuff -- lol) Seemed to make quite a difference this time around... but that's just me. I also did the patch for 2 weeks -- shoulda stayed on it longer, but no one said I was the brightest color in the box! Whatever works for you is what works. Good luck -- peteg My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/30/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 22 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,125 Amount Saved: $121 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 22 Mins: 32 Seconds: 37

Ace, 1st of all, you clearly have some willpower, afterall you are HERE!!! I am cold turkey, so I am not familiar with that aid. Just want to welcome you to the SSC and let you know that this site is an invaluable tool. Make sure investigate those tools on the left, the quitmeter is fab. Also, try not to wait too long to set your quit date, I have tried that way and you just end up dreading that day and smoking wayyyyy more than usual as you approach it. Anyway, what are you waiting for? You don't need yellow tooth causing, bad breath creating, chemical filled cancer stick do you? No way, you know better. Keep your head up, get in touch with the willpower we ALL know you DO have, and congratulations on your decision to join the everexpanding community of non/ex smokers!! Remember this, when you do pick a date: N.O.P.E (not one puff ever), I promise, it will get you through immensley difficult situations!!! Cheers!! Hi Ace - I quit with patches but it sounds like their are lots of people out there who have benefited from Zyban. Now that you have picked your aids, take advantage of the tools offered on this site. Post often and get ready for a whole new life. Lots of support and good advice in this room whenever you need it. Welcome to SCC! Hi Ace Welcome to SSC and congratulations for setting your quit date. I believe that attitude is key to success so try to focus on what you are actually gaining rather than loosing. You will gain your health and wellbeing You will gain self discipline You will gain a lot of dosh from what you save You will gain freedom from a slavery that is sooo insidious Make up your own list - there's lots of things. Then try to think of the good reasons to keep smoking - which list is longer??? I bet I can guess. You can do this and you are clearing the path to take your first steps. Just begin - you'll be surprised - it isn't as difficult as you might think. Sure there are bumpy bits but such is life. Post here often - we are all rooting for you. All the best Sharon My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/14/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 38 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 385 Amount Saved: 102.22 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 5 Mins: 43 Seconds: 4

Ace, Welcome to our support community! You have some great preparation going and make sure you talk to your doctor about the medication you want to use and see how it will work for you. The members will be along shortly to help support and give you knowledge of their experiences. Please post often and ask questions, as we are always here to assist you through this journey :) Keep Strong, Josie ____________________ The SSC Support Team.
