Hi Suzers I expect cutting back might be a good idea if you are going cold turkey but as I was a "patch" girl, I can't say for sure. You haven't mentioned whether you will be using NRT's or not. I chain-smoked until 2:30 in the morning the night before I quit. (I think I probably would have smoked all night if I hadn't run out of cigarettes) However, I also used the patch. I read Alan Carr while on the patch. I believe that those who read him while still smoking often lose the desire to smoke. Well...enough rambling.....as you can see we are all different! All the best! I forgot to mention that you could also download a good book by Joel Spitzer, "Never Take Another Puff", freely from the Internet. Use Google search to find its location. Welcome, Suzers! Alan Carr's book is a good book and I would recommend to all new quitters. However, I'm a "warm" turkey and I quit using NRT's aids (inhaler & lozenges), against Carr's recommendations! :) Cheers, nmc My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 123 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,238 Amount Saved: $615 Life Gained: Days: 23 Hrs: 0 Mins: 11 Seconds: 23

Welcome Suzers, Be gentle to yourself in the first two weeks, get through those - and then you're off. I quit using hypnotherapy and then going it cold turkey. I think you should ask your partner to take his smoking habit outside, otherwise you will still stink, despite you're efforts!! good luck! Look at you Suzer and all the responses!!! I quit this time reading Allen Carr's book. Has made all the difference in the world. But it still comes down to the bottom line you have to really want to quit. I mean really want to quit. I am a repeater, I needed to punish myself a little more. Quitting is far more easier than smoking, plus you get so many benefits. Good luck and look forward to seeing you around. Hi Suzers, Welcome to the SSC. It really is great to have you here with us. It sounds as though you are preparing yourself well, which is very important. I wouldn't recommend that you try to cut down before your quit, it just makes life tougher, and can scare you out of a quit, by turning you into a clock watcher just waiting for your next cigarette. I decided to quit cold turkey and I must admit it has worked well for me. I have tried all sorts of other methods in the past, and they all worked too....until I started smoking again. The main thing is your personal resolve to quit. Without it You are sunk before you start. To me it sounds as though you are ready for it. I wish you luck. Be strong and never hesitate to come here to read, to let off some steam or just fill in some time. We understand and we can help. Be Stong ! Hi, Suzers. Welcome to the SSC and congratulations on your decision to quit smoking. I quit using Wellbutrin (Zyban). The instructions were to smoke normally for two weeks while the drug reached it's maximum serum level, then quit. I cut back by about a third and ended up putting myself into a state of extended withdrawal and depression. Once I figured that out, I had 3 cigs in about 20 minutes, the depression lifted, and those three were my last. Allen Carr also suggested you continue to smoke normally until you finished his book. You mentioned that it seems like it's going to be painful when you quit. That isn't necessarily so, Suzers. You may be one that breezes through with ease. I hope that is so. But if it isn't, keep in mind that no matter how bad it may feel at the moment, smoking will just prolong it, not fix it. Should those times come, here is where you need to be. Reading, posting, asking for help and letting it come. Attitude is everything in this, Suzers, no matter what method you use. Determination and committment are important, too. You can do this, Suzers. Stay close, read much, post often.
