Cinda and Erika: The first few days are tough. No denying that. Pull out your toolbox and lets look to see what you have in there that can pull you through this craving.... Go for a walk, a nicly scented bath, a trip to the mall to window shop, exercise for ten minutes, floss and brush your teeth, address your Christmas cards, work a crossword puzzle.....Come on, you CAN do it--distract yourselves and lets think of something other than smoking! Cinda, Erika and Chickymama, Hell week is tough but you can do it! Just as your fellow quitters have suggested, I recommend distractions and lots of rewards! Keep us posted. Danielle ______________________ The SSC Support Team

Hi Cinda and Erika and Chickymama First congratulations on your decision to quit smoking! WOOOHOOOO!! Everyone has great things to say........read them and listen to these great quitters!! Also hang here at SSC and read and post.....read and post. One thing I think was not mentioned that helps is, look at the craves 5 minutes at a time. When you want a cigarette think, well let me try to get through 5 minutes......then make it 30 minutes and then an hour! As your meter grows and the hours go by and then a day goes by, you will think....wow I made it a day, then I made it 2 days! The first 3 days are the hardest. This gets easier, I promise! Hi cinda - You're going to need some powerful coping skills to keep you grounded and focused in your quit, friend... Spend some serious time here reading old posts - find the coping skills that worked for others, make a list of distractions to take you away... Your commitment to be and stay smoke-free is #1 right now... keep that commitment in front of you at all times... Hold on tight... do whatever you need to do, just don't smoke! Substitute!!! Hell week sucks but you can make it! Try keeping yourself distracted, walk, drink more water, eat candy, do whatever it takes not to pick up that cigarette! You can do it and you will feel amazing when it's over! here's a trick.....YOU don't want to smoke....the "addiction" wants you to. The junky is screaming and demanding that you feed him. HE wants back in control.....the fact that YOU have taken over is sending him up the wall and out the window. Just hang on....yes it's tough and yes you can't help but hear his screaming....but hang tough.....it's like training an unruly toddler....if you hold out and then give in???? well the next battle is gonna be even harder to win.....so hang tough....stick close to here....suck hard candy, drink gallons of ice water....take hot showers....lot soaks in the tub....go to bed early....eat regularly and have plenty of healthy snacks (and some that aren't so healthy too! :) ) hang on....the withdrawal WILL pass Katy My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/4/2002 Smoke-Free Days: 1791 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 71,667 Amount Saved: $10208.7 Life Gained: Days: 233 Hrs: 16 Mins: 47 Seconds: 26
