I only stopped smoking about 8 days ago, but I really thought I was the only one that cried! Almost anything that was said to me would meke me cry. But what I noticed is its really a one day at a time addiction. Everyday is different. I will cry all day one day and then the next day I'm fine, feel good about not smoking and then the next day I'm crying again. So, I haven't gotten excited when I do have a good day because I know I am too new to the quitting phase to know that I will still have bad days. I keep asking people I know who have quit successfully for years and every single one of them tells me the same thing-It will get better with time.

Hi Changing, I feel the same way today. Had a really stressful day yesterday and it took all I had in me to not smoke. I think my brain and body are spent. This takes so much effort sometimes, it wipes us out. Keep up the good work, you are doing great!!! Hi Changing, You're not alone! I slept for more than 12 hours last night and crawled in to work two hours late today. I'm at work, but definitely not all here today. I'm trying to enjoy the light-headedness, and not beat myself up. I've been taking 1/2 the recommended dosage of Chantix and wonder if I should start to taper off altogether - because of the excessive sleepiness. (Has anyone gone off the Chantix yet and noticed a change in their sleeping or alertness?) Thanks for posting doubts and vents, too. When we speak out about the hobgoblins and nicodemons of our quit, I think it minimizes their effects on us. After reading this thread, it does make a lot of sense that we feel wiped out, drained, irritable, and sad because we [u]really[/u] have been fighting a major battle since February. Changing Please don't be discouraged. The hold of nicotine is strong and sure, it grabbed us when we were young and wants to hold us until we are very old. You have come a long way and you have developed coping mechanisms that work for you. Remember them now and practice, practice, practice. Eventually these habits will become natural responses and you will no longer have to think about not smoking because at some point you will never think of smoking. Oh, you will think of it, but it will be just a thought, not the knawing power of a straight up crave. When you reach that point, you see more clearly the power that this thing has. It is only after we walk higher up the mountain that we can see the devil in the valley. Changing - I do wonder if perhaps you are entering the 3 week blahs. We have Hell Week followed by Heck Week but I most certainly think we need a name for Blah Week. It takes so much energy to get through those first couple weeks that, by the third week, we are often physically and emotionally exhausted. We expect to feel great (After all we made it through the first two weeks!) yet all we want to do is sleep. This quit journey can be so exhilarating and rewarding but it can also be discouraging at times. Every once in awhile we take a step backwards....We just have to get through those days and know that better ones are ahead! Hope you are feeling better tonight... Don't worry Changing - these feelings are completely normal. They don't call the third week 'Blah week' for nothing. It is pretty often that we feel tearful by the third week, probably since the whole effort of the last two weeks has been a bit of a chore. You will get better. You sound like you know what to do. Get your head down and ride it through, love. Things like exercise and rewards can help you get through. Please don't be frightened of worrying any newbies, everyone's quit is so different it doesn't necessarily mean that we all feel exactly the same. Hope you're feeling better soon!
