Hi Bobbi, I'm breathing fresh air only, from the 13th March good luck. It really would be a life style change for you. I've stopped in the past and the sense of achievement is great, just need to keep it up. Good luck Fraser My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/13/2007 Smoke-Free Days: -7 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 0 Amount Saved: 0 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 0 Mins: 0 Seconds: 0

Hi my name is Bobbi, from Indiana, this will be my fourth quit, have smoked for 50 years, stupid years! The last times I quit was cold turkey, never again, this time I am going to try the patch. my dr. wants me to use wellbutrin and the patch, but I have soooo many side affects with meds. to scared to try wellbutrin. The reason I went back to smoking was weight gain, gained 33 lbs. in 6 mo. and I really have a thing about weight. also I did walk, ate healthy as I do now, and excercised. This time I have joined a gym at the hosp. will give it a try. I WANT TO NOT SMOKE SO BAD! my husband quit 37 years ago and only have one friend who smokes and I am not around her very much, also I do not smoke in my home or in my car, so that is a help. Right now I have soooo much stress my mother-in-law who lives close, is in bad health and also my parent's who live 3 hrs. away, have been going to help out with them alot. but I just have to quit! Just wish things weren't so stressful as it will be hard enough just quitting. wish I had done this a few weeks ago when things were not bad here.I felt so happy then, not to much now! Hope to hear from you all! I need alot of support, well we all do when we quit. Thanks, Bobbi

Hi Bobbi... You have come to the right place. There is as much support here as you could ever want. Use the tools at the left, read a lot, post often, and just give a holler when you need some help. We'll be here for you! Sounds like your head is in the right place! It seems like there is always a stress trigger lurking out there somewhere. I used the patch last time, and it worked so well that I gave it up too soon, I think. The wellbutrin really helped with the munching thing (oh, how oral we smokers become), but it interfered with my sleep so I gave them up after a couple of weeks. This time I am trying Chantix...so far...fabulous! In my last quit I didn't know the secret of NOPE---Not One Puff Ever. I know it now, and it has become my mantra. Good luck with your quit, if we can do it, we all know you can do it. Hi! I wanted to say I agree with Changing in that there really is no good or bad time to quit. Also, as with Changing, I am currently using the Chantix as well, with no negative side effects and no weight gain (previous quit attempts have been cold turkey and NRT). But, with respect to the good time/bad time, I've really realized now four weeks into my quit that there is no "magic" time. This morning I fought with my husband, yesterday had a great day with my son, last week the car broke down... life continues to be ups and downs whether I am smoking or not -- smoking didn't make it a "magic stress free time" nor did quitting smoking make it "the end of all joy". The biggest difference I notice is that now I have more *time*. It's amazing how much all the little chunks of time associated with cigarettes (not just smoking them, but finding the matches, making sure they are in your purse, emptying the ashtray, finding your new pack, etc.) add up. I feel like I am handling more and handling it all more efficiently and *that* is a solid stress reducer. With whatever method you choose to use in your quit, know that you *can* do it. Hi Bobbi, Welcome! This is a wonderful place full of advice and support. Take this time to PREPARE FOR YOUR QUIT. It just might make it a little easier when it comes along. Work with your doctor regarding your meds. I'm currently using wellbutrin and the patch, and it has made a world of difference for me. Check your options and use what you and your doctor feel comfortable with. Looking forward to following your quit! It's never a good time to quit. I was a champ at excuses and stress was always right there at the top. The thing is....I will NEVER have a stress-free life, so might as well quit now! Sounds like you have a lot of good reasons to quit. Parents and in-laws in bad health, a non-smoking hubby, etc..... Sounds like the perfect time to quit! Dig in your heels and commit yourself to a healthier lifestyle. Don't agonize over the weight...you can take it off later! Welcome Bobbi - So glad you're joining us. I just wrote in another post about the issue of "when to quit"...the bottom line is that there is no good or bad time to quit. We'll always have life stressors. And I know that over the years I've used a lot of life's challenges as excuses for not quitting. So, when's a good time to quit? Now! (or 3/27 in your case!). I also tried Wellbutrin once but couldn't tolerate the side effects. Now I'm taking Chantix - it's been very helpful (with no bad side effects). I'm on Day #10 - which is the longest I've ever quit! One more thought...it sounds like you're really busy taking care of everyone around you (your mother-in-law, your parents) - now it's time to take care of yourself. Keep us updated on how you're doing!
