Hello moqueen, Its cold turkey for me. I tried EVERYTHING. Nothing worked! They were all just a cruch. I found out that the only way to quit is to just stop. Wanna know whats interesting? I am in the medical field and have talked to a lot of people that are hooked on cocane and herion. And they all say that it was easier for them to quit the drugs but not as easy to quit smoking! This is true!. Thanks for your support! Jim

Hello All!!! The saturday morning blues! lol. Got up abruptly at 6 am with a intense craving! I had a dream that had food in it! lol. Loved to smoke after a good meal. But i got up, took the dog for a walk, wife thinks I am nuts, but she never smoked! The dog didnt want to go, but I pulled his chain! Funny thing, i never used to cough, now I cough, my mouth tastes like metal. I just reached my 36 hour of not smoking, had to stay out of the bars last night! I think I am on my way to beating R.J RENOLDS! THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH FOR HELPING ME!!!! I could not of made this long without your support! I just hope I can help the next person out! I'm trying to make it through my second day and know just what you are going through. I really like QuitMeister's example of us slogging down that muddy road from prison. We just have to keep on keeping on, and before long we'll be free! There are a lot of ways to get through the day. Or lots of ways we each use to keep our minds in the right place. Some people are using Chantrix, others welbutrin, patches, gum, and some (like me) are going cold turkey. Have you looked at the information on the left side of this page? There is a lot of stuff there that is helpful to most people. There isn't a simple answer to your question. The way for me is to play head games on myself. I need to get my mind in the right state and I usually do this with visualization of something that works for me. I imagine smoking as a really nasty prison that we each put ourselves in. I imagine that the door is always open on the prison and we can walk in or walk out anytime we want to. I have decided to leave the prison. The road to freedom is long and tough. I like to imagine it as being sloppy and muddy with a lot of rain and gray skies. But I use this site as a reminder that I am not on this road alone. There are a lot of us and we are linking arms and pulling each other along together. The road is slippery and it's easy to stumble. The prison we left behind has some allure because it seems sometimes like we would be happier in there and some people want to turn around and go back. The others we are on the road with help to keep us from turning around. No matter how bad it seems slogging down the road away from that prison - however tempting it is to believe that the rain will never clear away and the mud will dry up - know this: there are clear blue skies and sunshine ahead. There really are. Just read the posts from people on here who are quit for a year or more. Where they are, the muddy road and rain is becoming a distant memory. I don't know if my metaphor for imagining what quitting is all about is helpful to anyone or not. I am guessing it might not be. But the point I would make is that you need to get your mind set however it needs to be set and then take advantage of the support and education this site has to offer - and QUIT. Don't look back, stay positive. And really, it just boils down to N.O.P.E. Not one puff ever. Jaset, how are you doing today? It is very tough to get through hell week but each and every time you beat that crave, you get stronger and it gets weaker. You have to have more determination to quit than desire to smoke. That's how we put one day in front of another.
