Hi Missyfit, Great Post, and real good info. The one thing that I wish I knew is the amount of water in a day one should drink. I don't think the amount is the same for all body types. Like someone who is 120 pounds verses 220 pounds, can't hold the same amount of food, so would the water intake be the same? I hear anywhere from 36oz. per day, to 68oz. per day of very cold water. :gasp: Great job everyone. Thanks Missyfit...UFO My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/1/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 626 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 18,795 Amount Saved: $3756 Life Gained: Days: 70 Hrs: 10 Mins: 15 Seconds: 58

LOL at the 81, Marie... and I have a sweet tooth the size of Delaware so I can relate to cupcakes. (I'm not a 4 yet... I'm a shrinking size 6... who knows if those 4's will ever zip without my face turning blue!) I DEFINITELY would not diet until I felt strong enough in my quit. It was a little while before I felt I could take my focus off quitting enough to focus on dieting. BUT... that time eventually rolled around (no pun intended) :eg: ...and because our bodies have changed, things may be a little different than before. If you find it harder... just don't give up... explore your options. Heya bg, the nutrionist sounds like an excellent idea. I think it's good that you put it in the distance. That'll give you a time to work towards... but if you find you're not ready then either, no pressures. There's always New Year's with the rest of us resolutionists :) Mike...Hello! Haven't seen you post in a while. How nice to see you :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/2/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 579 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 11,596 Amount Saved: $2067.03 Life Gained: Days: 61 Hrs: 9 Mins: 24 Seconds: 16

No more celery sticks for me for lunch... (where's a green faced, sick looking icon when ya need one?) About 6 months into my quit, I'd had it. I decided it was time to shake that extra JunkNdaTrunk (and a few other places) that I'd accumulated during my quit. I was already active, about 5 miles every morning and Pilates...weights... and while that's healthy, it didn't phase my weight one bit. Neither were the attempts at dieting on my own (you know..."excercise more, eat less"). I finally joined a "nationally known weight loss program". I lost a 1/2 pound to a pound a week for a total of 6 lbs. Then..NOTHING... for 5 looooong months...nothing. The counselors and nutritionist tried everything they knew. I tried everything I knew. I even had my thyroid and hormones checked. It just wasn't going to budge. I dumped my money hungry, time wasting, tummy growling program and invested MUCH LESS in a visit to a Bariatrician (a doctor that specializes in weight and metobolism). He nodded when I told him of my quit and my attempts to lose the weight as if he'd heard it a thousand times before. Then, he debunked everything I'd been doing! Eating less and exercising more was NOT what I was supposed to be doing for metabolism. This won't be for everyone. I know that a lot of factors play into weight loss... but who better to guide you than a physician? If you want to lose it or if you're stuck or frustrated or afraid to quit (like i was) for fear of gaining, consider seeing a Bariatrician. Here's just a few basics and the gist of things... Stop punishing yourself. Weight gain isn't completely your fault or in your control when you quit smoking. Your metabolism WILL drop approximately 10%. Now, for those that it only drops 1%, count your lucky stars. For those of us at the other end of the spectrum, we need a plan...especially if we've been spinning our wheels and not getting anywhere except more frustrated. Excercise alone will NOT be enough to boost metabolism back to where it needs to be. It's recommended, it's good, it's healthy, it can help you maintain and it can help you lose weight... but it won't be enough without the right foods and enough of them. The higher metabolism, the better the weight loss. Eat your breakfast and make it a biggun!(

LOL... thanks for the green faces, N2k and cybr.. (I agree, mc...especially green face #2). Can't tell ya how many times I could've used one of those. Misty, I've always heard that "you can have anything in moderation" concept, but I'm not sure that I ever agreed with it... unless... I was trying to lose a pound and wanted some of that chocolate pie that mom made THEN moderation suddenly made sense :eg: I guess we just have to admit that, for our health, there are some thing we simply can't have (or choose not to have). You bring up a good point that instead of feeling deprived, we should turn it into a positive choice. We use that logic so well when we quit smoking... there's no reason it can't be applied to other parts of our lives. Josie, thanks! but I'm not sure I can say I love my body just yet. I'm still traumatized and could probably use some intense therapy after the "3D mirror/bathing suit/flourescent light episode" :8o: At least when I started laughing I didn't cough. Hey there Rman! Glad you stopped by :) N.O.P.E. Hey there, UFO... I think I typo'd in my original post and put just 8 ozs of water. (oops) I meant 8, 8 ounce glasses of water (the general rule). There's actually a formula for figuring how much water you should drink... If you're not active: 1/2 ounce per pound of body weight If you're active: 2/3 ounce per pound if you're active If you're overweight: add 8 ounces per 25 pounds over ideal weight Add more fluid if you live in a hot climate. The bariatrician told me that I could count fluids such as tea, diet drinks...etc.. (thank goodness, or I'd be tired of plain water). He also said to divide fluids evenly throughout the day. After two or three weeks, your body adjusts to that volume. I've been doing it (most days)...but it's still a challenge, especially since the weather is cooling down. Wonder how much sugar-free hot cocoa I can get by with? :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/2/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 625 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 12,512 Amount Saved: $2231.25 Life Gained: Days: 66 Hrs: 5 Mins: 47 Seconds: 26

Missy, This is fantastic and congratulations on finding something that is working for you! Your right everyone is different, what worked for you may not work for others :) You have showed us that here is hope and yet another avenue to try if you are getting frustrated. We should all take the time to love ourselves no matter what the weight. Your quit is a great way to validate the love you have for your body! Members check with your doctor to come up with a plan that is right for you and share with us what has made a difference. Although we are not allowed to promote products, or links, were can indeed share information on what is working for one another. Missy, I am so proud of you and your journey! Size 4 you say! Extremely jealous :) Keep Strong, Josie _____________________ The SSC Support Team.
