Life is no fun?

LOVE THE KEYBOARD GRAPHICS, FREE! I'm sorry, Dee, I need someone to describe 'normal' before I can answer that question. I don't think I have ever reached that level in all 46 years---smoking or not! Where's Duckie...perhaps she can answer this....HEHEHEHEHEHEH :p Watch out for the soup and tea she will try to feed ya! ;p My Milage: My Quit Date: 9/8/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 44 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,238 Amount Saved: $352 Life Gained: Days: 4 Hrs: 14 Mins: 30 Seconds: 39

Dee, I had a kind of a hard time at first but after about three months, it has gotten easier and I hardly think about it anymore. The only problem I really have is if I am out with my kids and people are smoking all around me. Soon, here where I live, there will be a smoking ban taking effect and that will help that problem. But yeah, now I can difintaly have more fun without it. Think about this: when you go see a movie, you won't have the cravings towards the end of the movie to distract you and you won't have to rush out. No more looking for your cigarettes, lighter ect. No more making sure you have them before you leave the house. No more having to go outside. Things are really a lot more fun with out it. Cigarettes Not Smoked

Hi Dee and Welcome to the SSC. Congrats on your decision to quit smoking. You are right in that being a junkie to smokes is no different than being a junkie to any other drug. Smoking also effects us mentally just like other drugs do, letting us hide from our emotions and not facing reality ... What a relief it is to finally see the lies, to dissect them, to take back our power ... to control our life again ... to not be a slave to an addiction ... to live life as we want to and not according to when we are going to get our next fix.
Tell me when can I expect to start thinking that my life can be engaging and fun without cigarettes?
When you decide to.
I am not a drinker and I say to myself "Dee, think of all the alcoholics who think they cannot have a life without a drink. That's you! You think that life without a cigarette can't make you happy. How ridiculous is that?" Now, since I am not a addictive drinker I know that I can have a full and complete life without a cocktail, so logically the same must be true of cigarettes!!!
And it is, as you already logically know. Don't fight the logic. You see the truth.
I don't want to read (my passion), I don't want to be home (where 90% of my smoking took place) and I don't want to be in the car alone (the other 10% was there).
So do it anyway. Face your triggers and conquer them. The more you face your triggers, the faster you get over them and can move on.
So at about what mark did you realize that life was really good without the cigs?
For me it was 3 to 4 weeks. It is obvious to me that you see the lies of addiction. Now you just have to believe them and apply them to yourself to kill the junkie within. You can do it Dee. Hi Dee - Where are you in your Quit(?) (please show your meter so we can better support you)... I truly believe that we bring to our Quit journeys what we do in our everyday life... In other words, if there is peace inside, we will bring that peace into our Quits and that peace will soften the journey. If we have some rough edges inside, some anger for example, that will be magnified during our Quits, especially at first... So where each of us goes on the journey, is mapped well before we Quit, IMO... This journey can be tough - I khow that I dealt with some emotions due to some losses that I had not completely processed... Did I feel like I had no fun? I guess one would have to define fun... When did I realize life was good w/out cigarettes? When I woke up from my flu-cold thing, and realized I had Quit... :) Life is ((really)) good, Dee ... make it good - take good care of yourself, find some passion and make sure to reward yourself... When I really felt down, I knew it was reward time... Part of the process is mental - it's emotional... Embrace the journey and don't forget to embrace your own humanity... Blessings- ~ Healer My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 228 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 8,009 Amount Saved: $1060.2 Life Gained: Days: 29 Hrs: 16 Mins: 15 Seconds: 25

Dee, I agree you need to show your meter. That said, I'm not quite 2 wks into my quit and this past week has been horrible with depression! Feelings such as you describe and more...really down...feeling like I lost my best friend. Yesterday that improved and today feels even better. I can tell you from a previous quit that lasted over a year that emotions do run up and down for the first several months. It helps to talk to others and stay busy...make yourself do things even though you don't want to. Yesterday at work one of my old smoke break buddies remarked he hadn't seen me for a while. I told him I've quit and he was really excited for me and I even detected a note of jealousy and envy. This addiction really does get it's claws into you and the emotional roller coaster is just another way it tries to defeat you. Stay in touch with your friends and communicate with groups like this one. Above all, remain the boss of yourself and stay strong...it will get better. Dee, it's different for every person. I really started feeling comfortable and secure in my quit around the 90 day mark. Though to be quite honest, I still have the occasional craving. They are strong, but very brief and now are a rather odd feeling. It's certainly a LOT milder than the cravings in the first month of my quit. I understand about being involved in D and A work. I have an MSW. I've quit before this, but it never stuck. This time, I saw myself as the addict I really am...and with EVERYTHING that goes with the word. Once I saw myself as a junkie, deciding not to light up the next cigarette became a lot easier. I still had to fight the craves, but I didn't want to go back to being controlled by a drug addiction....and I certainly didn't want to go through detox again. Hang in there. You're doing great so far. You'll be on the cruise ship heading to The Beach before you know it!
