Cigarettes Not Smoked

Hi Tina, When I stopped smoking I started LIVING. I began to discover all the enjoyable things in life that I could not do properly because they were always punctuated with several cigarette 'breaks'. Smoking is slavery to addiction; nothing more. In February, I made the best decision of my life as you have now! all the best, Mr Ed :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/13/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 152 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,565 Amount Saved: 1140 Life Gained: Days: 25 Hrs: 8 Mins: 55 Seconds: 46

My answer to this is Very simple ~ What do you do when you're not smoking? Everything you always wanted to do but never had "time"! AND Anything you want, there's no restrictions when you're a non smoker. You never have to "leave a function, conversation or situation" to go feed your nasty nicotine habit. tina3869, i wrote a long winded & confusing reply to your post & got myself all worked up, so i ended up trashing it ! :quest: all i can say is .. yeah it's tough - work or no work, it wears us all down. Try to adopt the attitude that whatever you do or whereever you are.. If you don't want to smoke - dont !. Day will eventually be less of a struggle. Auntie welcome :) That really is a good idea. Learning how to do smething new when you first quit smoking is a good way to distract your mind. Good question Tina. I work and noticed that when I quit, I didn't know what to do with myself and stopped taking breaks. But soon I started reading and posting here and that is what I did instead of smoke. Walking, researching stuff on the internet, chatting, playing golf, and spending quality time with my kids are what I do now instead of smoking. Soon you begin to live life instead of letting it pass you by while you smoke. It is awesome too!!!!!! Breaking free.. sounds like you and I would get along great in a resturant :p If you have kids, you can also build car tunnels and ramps with the menus while you wait for your food. Be sure to bring a couple of extra hot wheels along just incase one rolls under some scary looking individual you don't want to get too close to :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/1/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 391 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 7,831 Amount Saved: $1368.5 Life Gained: Days: 34 Hrs: 12 Mins: 12 Seconds: 58

Hi, Tina. Small world! I'm Alabama, born and raised. I sure miss that part of the country where trees and grass grow all by themselves. Out here in the desert everything is either dead or it wants to kill you. :gasp: Anyhow, I digress. I do believe that those who work would have it easier because of the distraction work provides. Unless, of course, the quitter works in an environment that allows smoking while working. Those would be up against the same challenge you are. Distraction is the key here. When you smoked and did other things, you formed memory associations between the events and smoking. Now you have to sever those associations and the only way to do this is to do the things while not smoking. Sometimes the link will be broken on the first try, sometimes it will take a few tries. Just remember that it will eventually happen, so be patient and strong. If the urge gets strong, then right away stop what you're doing and do something else. Go for a walk, exercise, or even just switch tasks. As for worker's break time, I suggest taking the break somewhere different. Wherever you used to go for your smoking break, don't go there. If the weather is nice, take a walk. Or visit a coworker. Just don't do the thing you used to do when you smoked. Eventually, you can, but at first you just need to stay away from it.
