This thread is very important because it points out the universality of the quitting process. It shows me that it's not because the tobacco companies are based in the U.S. that cigs are addictive, nor does it have anything to do with the culture. Not only am I not the only one, but we are not the only country! So yes, this thread is helping my quit. Also, I think that not know ANYTHING about the people that you are being help accountable by makes it hard to be accountable to them. However, I would like to know, are such restrictions also held to on the im? If not, maybe we should use that more than we do. Hi Niks, Spent nearly all day in Cribbs Causeway with my daughter recently, (large shopping mall in Bristol UK), wouldn't have been able to do that 60 odd days ago, I'd have been finding my way outside every 30 mins or so to have a very stressed cigarette! In fact that day's shopping was a large retail reward for myself (and my daughter... but she doesn't smoke anyway) Lilly :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/11/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 62 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,875 Amount Saved: 310 Life Gained: Days: 8 Hrs: 2 Mins: 38 Seconds: 36

Good Morning JACKO and Mr Ed, Id like to join in and explore a little of my no smoking geography with you, if I may.... I'm originally from Blackburn, Lancashire. North-West England neck of the woods, nearish to you JACKO, where I believe the entire Blackburn Rovers football team are non smokers! In my 20's I trained as an SRN (state registered nurse)at St George's Hospital, London learning about and witnessing at first hand the health consequences of smoking related diseases...I lived in Tooting, Wimbledon, Chelsea and Knightsbridge in nurses' accommodation and I'm sure Mr Ed can help me out with famous Quitters from those areas .....sad to say I wasn't one of them!!! I now live in Bodmin, Cornwall and have specialised in mental health nursing, acute in-patient care for many years....traditionally a very smoking environment...but we are going smoke free in September and this gave me the push I needed. I really want to carry on being a non smoker and I've been amazed and encouraged by the positive impact the support from people on this site has had, I hope this continues. Very glad you're back JACKO Thank you Mr Ed, for your encouragement :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/11/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 62 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,868 Amount Saved: 310 Life Gained: Days: 8 Hrs: 1 Mins: 51 Seconds: 29

Hello groovers, I love this thread and I love finding out about my quit family. You guys are v important to me and to know a little about where you live makes it all the more real. Especially as I can't download the IM 'cause we don't use microsoft. Can I add, as I have said before, without this site I think that I would have caved a while back. I feel more accountable to you guys than I do to my friends here. They've seen me fail at this before and still love me, but you guys have the tough love and even more importantly have the knowledge, the experience, and the cruise ship. So: to repeat. I live in the gorgeous Blue Mountains which are about an hour's drive west from gorgeous Sydney (where I used to live). The air here is fresh, clear and cold at the moment cause it's winter here in the south. Never cold enough for snow. Our house is surrounded by heritage National Park and eucalyptus trees and we overlook a valley with views to Sydney. Our mountains are really only hills, very old & worn down. And they're not really very blue close up which disappointed me greatly as a child. There are no famous people around here that I know of but I'm v vague about that. I know that they visit 'cause it's all a bit touristy sometimes. Lots of weekend traffic. Love the sound of the pub Jacko. My favourite pub up here was one I used to avoid 'cause the nice section is the non-smoking section. But now I can go there and swill till the cows come home. The only down side is that I have to go next door to the rough side to use the ATM and it reeks of cigarettes. But that smell is bothering me less and less these days & hopefully things will stay that way. cheers Mister Edward. x alison :) Kick the Herb to the Kerb My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/16/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 57 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,718 Amount Saved: $712.5 Life Gained: Days: 8 Hrs: 2 Mins: 48 Seconds: 36

Thanks for the question Danielle, I can't speak for anyone else but this sort of thread is v valid for me as it makes my SSC quit family seem so much more real. It is also awe inspiring that we come from all walks of life and from all over this pretty blue planet. This kind of thread helps me stay focused in my quit process, while being a lot of fun too. cheers alison :) Kick the Herb to the Kerb My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/16/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 60 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,801 Amount Saved: $750 Life Gained: Days: 8 Hrs: 12 Mins: 17 Seconds: 50
