Yesterday afternoon I was chopping mushrooms to go with supper. Minding my own business, not thinking of anything in particular. Then BOOM, like a lightening bolt tearing through the sky. I said to myself like I have always done through the years, "I think I'll nip outside for a quick puff." For that millisecond, I ACTUALLY forgot that I don't smoke anymore. The thought came as quickly as it went, but it left me feeling empty. For that second, I was excited about "nipping out for that puff." What a letdown. But you know what, I opened a bottle of water, lots of deep breaths and after awhile, I recovered. The feeling was absolutely HORRIBLE, but eventually it did pass. --This too shall pass-- That saying really strikes a chord in me. Those four words alone have helped me out of some rough spots. So today, I'm back on a high...until the next time. And I will be ready. Have a great day! I know the feeling Jan!!! I was at the store last week checking out and yes I asked for my brand of smokes!!!???? Just rolled right out of my mouth. The lady went and got them and then I just stared at her and said I forgot I quit smoking. She kind of looked at me crazy!! I smoked for 20yrs so it is for sure a habit and it reminds me how cigs are really a drug. jan58 at 11 days under your belt, you're doing just grreat. Way to go using those coping mechanisms. Job well done be proud you deserve it. Today on my way to the gym with hubby,(of all places) I just wanted a smoke geez I said to hubby, tell me something ,anything I have a crave ,he says: don't smoke it's bad for you,LOL I started laughing and it passed in 3 seconds but it was strong. Such a horrible addiction it just grabs you when you least expect it, but we can do it we're stronger than the addiction. One day at a time :)Marie My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/13/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 101 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,525 Amount Saved: $404 Life Gained: Days: 13 Hrs: 9 Mins: 50 Seconds: 7

They kind of sneak up on you sometimes, don't they? Several times, when cleaning house, it strikes me. After I finish mopping this floor I'll smoke while the floor dries.... So, I stopped doing housework :p You are doing so well, Jan! Glad you talked your way through it! Give yourself a big pat on the back! :)

Good going Jan. You keep doing what you are doing ... coping with those triggers and not letting them turn into full blow craves! WELL DONE!!!! It gets easier and easier. Cigarettes Not Smoked

17 years ago 0 1262 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Dear Jan I smoked for 34 years, all of my teen years and always as an adult. I still every so often jump up to light a cigarette. ITS A BRAIN THING, not a CRAVE thing. KEEP LISTENING Jan and newbies.......... Then as I am looking for my smokes, I tell the dumb side of my brain.............. Hey YOU DON"T SMOKE ANYMORE! And I get all giggly and happy! Telling my brain I don't smoke is such a cool REWARD. Jan this is a life changing thing you are doing and the best thing you could ever do for yourself. Keep up the great quit ya got going and Stay Strong! I (we) are all proud of you!! ;) My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/30/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 235 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,538 Amount Saved: $705 Life Gained: Days: 25 Hrs: 17 Mins: 39 Seconds: 50

Hi Jan, There are so many lessons in your post... Very true - it all passes... Craves pass... and the tough times pass, too. Your focus on your Quit is strong and grounded... and you are doing just beautifully! It's really so simple - if we hang on and allow the clock to keep ticking, we move right through the sadness, the craves, the challenging times... Lots of wisdom here, friend - thanks for a great post!
