Janet Hi, You know older people ,well I should say some older people, think it's ok to talk about physical appearance. I was just talking with a friend of mine about it last night, she gained quite a bit and went to a family thing last week and all the aunts and uncles made allusions to her weight. So we started thinking of answer when this happens. We came out with quite a few and we laughed so much forgot all about the weight, I'm getting plumper by the minute all the more to love LOL. One thing at a time and one day at a time, I'll take care of it in due time. So good luck to you, protect your quit and you'll be just fine :)Marie My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/13/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 74 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,122 Amount Saved: $296 Life Gained: Days: 9 Hrs: 20 Mins: 44 Seconds: 53

Oh Janet, girl, that's horrible! That totally would've made me mad, you have great restraint. Iknow how you feel, though. My elastic waistbands even hurt. I can't hide the rolls anymore under my shirts. I'm definitely heavier now than after I had my baby. I want to just tell everyone that I quit smoking, b/c I know they're thinking "Oh man, she got fat". But, the good news is my daughter won't even remember the years that I smoked, which is a great thing. I wish I could just go for a walk in my neighborhood, but I've got nerve damage from back surgery, and have serious pain in my foot. Looks like I might have to start riding my bike again. Situps couldn't hurt either. But...WE QUIT SMOKING!!! The other stuff will fall into place in time, right? See you on the beach! Hi Skidoo...I know what you mean and not just insensitive remarks about weight, some dumb comments about other things have REALLY irritated me and you know what...I've allowed myself to reply on occasions...no holds barred, both guns blazing...followed by a look of astonishment on my face, and an over-the-top, full-on-sincere apology, ( yeah, right!!)..." ...Where did that come from..must be cos I've quit smoking!!" ....But, they get the point and can't take offence....naughty but very satisfying and it might just make them realise how offensive their comments are. Good luck, Lilly :eg: My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/11/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 110 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,309 Amount Saved: 550 Life Gained: Days: 14 Hrs: 7 Mins: 16 Seconds: 33

Hi Skidoo and on your accomplishment! I am really so very happy for you! As far as the weight goes, I understand your frustration. I felt the same way around the same time. I was working out and the weight just wasn't leaving. Well I am happy to report that it is finally going away! I work out every other day. I diet. It is paying off. We all say the wrong thing at one time or another. None of us are perfect or full of tact 24/7 and some seem to enjoy being rude. The world is full of all different kinds of personalities. No matter what anyone says ... what is most important is how we talk to ourselves. Do not let what others say dictate how you talk to or believe about yourself. Keep on keeping your quit Skidoo. Don't worry about the weight, just keep active and watch your calorie intake. It will come off eventually. It will. Just keep putting one foot in front of the other and keep on gettin' er' done. ;) My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/12/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 109 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,288 Amount Saved: $436 Life Gained: Days: 9 Hrs: 5 Mins: 17 Seconds: 32

    Cigarettes Not Smoked

75 days today. 25 days left until I hit the beach. You know, I really really try to be a positive person, to see the glass as half full, to smile even when I feel like screaming. Well today I'm screaming. Not that I want to have a cigarette - those days are pretty much behind me - but now I'm left with this weight gain that just doesnt seem to want to go away. See here's the thing. I had a baby in November and then quit smoking in May and have added an extra 15 pounds to my frame. Well about a week ago I woke and thought - today is the day I start my new exercise/diet routine. I finally felt ready - have all of my energy back and ready to tackle another demon of mine head on (have also been addicted to food for EVER). So today I buy some new runners and go for a power walk. Man was I ever feeling great - the endorphins and adrenaline were working overtime. Then it happened. I walked by my sister's mother-in-laws house and she was outside, so I stopped to say hello. And she says to me and I quote "Wow, I didnt recognise you - you've gotten so fat." What - What do you say to that??????????? I wanted to smack her. I just smiled and said I quit smoking an see ya later. I know she is just a thoughtless old woman but her words really hit a nerve. Ok, I know this thread has turned into more of a rant about something other than smoking - but I really needed to get this off my chest. And you know what? I feel better for having done so. I no longer want to eat the entire contents of my fridge! Thanks for listening everyone! See ya on the beach! Hi everyone and thanks for your support - it really does make a difference! RD - thank you for the words of wisdom - you're right and I know that in time it will all fall into place, but sometimes I get SO impatient. I can deal with the withdrawl and everything the nicodemon throws at me but right now I'm having SO much trouble dealing with the weight. Thanks for reminding me that everything happens when it should. And by the way, I'm so glad you are back - this place would be lost with out you! Hi Marie! That is exactly what my husband said - "Janet, to her weight might be a good thing" LIke suddenly he's Martha Stewart! LOL!!! I guess sometimes you just have to grin and bear it. Would love to hear some of your responses if you feel like sharing!!! Hi Andy!Like you I'm so happy that my eight year old will eventually forget about my smoking, my three year old will never remember and my 9 month old, well he is just making his memories so no worries there. I have three boys and none of them deserve to inherit my addictions. I hope your back gets better and you too can enjoy walking again! And Casey - thank you for your continued support. SSC is lucky to have you!!! Cheers everyone, Janet My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/12/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 75 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 911 Amount Saved: $412.5 Life Gained: Days: 6 Hrs: 16 Mins: 38 Seconds: 50

Skidoo, Even the svelte old horse put some weight on in trhe first couple of months. I'm sure this will rectify itself over time. I'll take you for a run down the Beach when you arrive. That will do the trick! Hi Janet, we are all a little fluffier, but we're not smoking. One thing at a time. The rest will happen for us later on ~ you have to give your body time to catch up with the plans you have for it. It's still getting used to you quitting. Take care & keep up the great work. Glad you're feeling terrific.
