I hope I can have your will power. I've only been stopped for 12 hours and can already smell smoke on other people. I did okay coming into work today, Smoking while driving was my bad point. Have not told my family, only my boss. Do not want my kids to keep saying don't you want a cig! Scared I would have to say you bet. Going to put off going to visit my mom for a week since she is a smoker, hoping that will get me through a little more time so maybe I can handled sitting with someone smoking.

Hey Princess -- Mine are the same, with an addition: I found, much to my surprise, that I hadn't bitten my nails since I quit! What an added bonus! Another surprise was that my ears would always close up, and smoking was the only thing that would open them (a TMJ kind of thing, I guess); now that I don't smoke, my ears have been staying wide open for the most part! Who knew? peteg My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/30/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 10 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 523 Amount Saved: $55 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 19 Mins: 57 Seconds: 52

Poodle Lady, Stay strong, you have made one of the best decisions you could possibly make. You are increasing your chances of a long life so you can watch those kids of yours grow up and get married and move out (so they can't ask you if you need a smoke, lol) Just remember, N.O.P.E Not One Puff Ever. It'll help you get through. Every second counts. Just take today 5 minutes at a time, each second that passes brings you closer to overcoming nicodemon. Drink lots of water (ice cold) and herbal tea (no caffeine) to get the nicotine out of your system. Stay strong, and stay proud- you are doing great!!! In the month that I have been a nonsmoker I have noticed: - I feel empowered- proud of myself like I can do anything. I am able to hold my head high and know that I am no longer slowly killing myself. - I can smell my perfume throughout the whole day- and have gotten compliments on how good I smell! - I was active before but now can run 9k in 35 minutes, withoiut walking at all. Once I quit smoking I was able to make exponential progress with my fitness- it is easier to breathe and muscle recovery is at least twice as fast. - I can go to a movie and enjoy the entire thing, without having to miss bits and pieces to go out onto the freezing cold (Alberta) winter weather, - I am more relaxed because I am free, my body isn't craving something every half hour that interrupts the flow of my day- I can complete tasks at work and school without interruption. - Food tastes unbelievable!! Everything, no need to eat super sugary foods anymore, fruit is enough- I never knew an apple could taste so good!! - I have saved almost enough money to buy a new pair of boots, yay - It is getting so much easier, I no longer 'want' to smoke, and am less and less trying to convince myself of this- it is becoming a subconscious thought! Downfalls - Smoking friends are not very supportive- I think because they wish they could do it but are afraid!!! - Nothing else, there are NO REAL downfalls of quitting, these are temporary... I hope!! lol. Poodle lady, Start planning for triggers before they hit. Make alternatives to smoking and rewards for staying smoke free readily available. Having a plan ready will make it much easier to stay on track. Keep strong. Danielle _______________________ The SSC Support Team

Princess I was able to have a few cocktails as long as I was wearing the patch. I only would drink at home not at the clubs. If urges got too bad, I would just take an aspirin and go to bed. When I awoke in the morning the urges were gone. Going to be bed early can help you fight those night time urges. After a couple of weeks of being quit, I would go outside my place of work and talk to my old smoking buddies as they were puffing on a cigarette. I told myself that this would help me build up my confidence to continue with the quit. Actually as I watched my old smoking buddies puffed away, I felt sorry for them and this made me stronger. Other ways that helped me. If I wanted a cig, I would just tell myself wait until the next urge and then when the next one came around, wait until the next urge. You are in day 9 and you are doing just fine. Keep it up. It does and will get easier. Keep yourself distracted; change your schedules by doing things at different times during the day. Dont dwell; keep yourself distracted.

I still do not want to drink alcohol. I am afraid that will be a trigger and alcohol lowers your inhibition so it would be easier to rationalize a cigarette. I am probably better without the alcohol anyhow. Keep it up we are all in this together. Your skin color will improve too if it has not already My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/9/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 11 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 288 Amount Saved: $38.5 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 7 Mins: 4 Seconds: 17

I am surprised to find coffee doesn't taste like cigarettes! (always had a smoke w/ my coffee) Also that you can go out with friends, socialise with a drink and enjoy it without having to smoke. I used to chain-smoke at the pubs. And even though the thought of cigarettes is constantly on my mind, the desire to smoke is not. Non smokers don't get cravings. I'm not quite there yet but it's not far off.

Things i have noticed in the week i have been a non smoker... I can easily walk passed a cigarette counter without hesitation or a blink of the eye. That once the first 4 days have passed the days after get easier and easier, i find the key to it is to just stay focussed and post, post, post. Get it all out, encourage and be encouraged. Be inspired. Even when one of my friends have a drag 2 hours previous.... i CAN smell it. I was standing in line at the grocery store and the lady in front of me and her husband were smokers (i could smell it on them). All the fruit, water and herbal tea i have been consuming my skin has cleared up so much, my eyes are brighter and have their sparkle back. I can breathe so much better, i cant beleive what a difference a little over a week can do. :) I feel i have taken charge of my life, i feel like i DO have a choice and that is empowering to no end :) I no longer have to stand out in the swealtering heat or the freezing cold to have a cigarette. I mean what the heck was i thinking lol For every good there is bad... Bad things :( My car still smells of cigarette. (my sister assures me that over time this smell will fade, lol she said either that or just buy a new car hee hee) People at work dont have faith that im now a non smoker. They think i will fall back into the trap. This is a good & a bad i guess... cant quite categorize it... I have noticed that smokers really do have a "junkie" way of thinking and not one of my friends want to quit!! Im baffled by this. My nephews girlfriend who is 24 said she doesnt want to go through the withdrawls, so if there was an easy where she didnt have to worry about it she would do it. hmmm yea ok. What are everyone else's experiences? Feelings? Thoughts?
