Thanks for posting this Lady, it gives us newbies, like me, something to look forward to. But unlike others, I did lose all the weight I wanted to lose before I quit, so If I find I'm gaining weight during this quit, I'll just go back to the diet and weights and cardio I was doing before. Right now I feel Good about my quit but I know some day I will feel GREAT about it. It's a slow progress, but after 28 years of smoking, I don't expect to feel real Great after 10 days quit. When I start to feel the benefits of quitting smoking and drinking, you bet, I'll boast about it on here.....LOL. Keep strong Lady, you are doing FANTASTIC!!!! had enough :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/20/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 11 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 385 Amount Saved: $82.5 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 1 Mins: 47 Seconds: 14

Yet another inspirational post Lady, thank you! :) This weekend I was wondering what the benefits were, I had just got paid so financial wasnt an issue. As for the health benefits, well actually I DONT feel better at all, not healthily. I feel just the same. I am glad that this isnt just me. Yes, this is me as well... I was in the best shape of my life before I quit, because Jan 1 I had resolved to start working out and lose weight and I had stuck with it great! Now, I have come across some financial problems and had to give up my club membership and also I hit my goal weight so I'm not on a strict diet anymore, and I am able to eat more calories. So I actually don't feel much better except for my breath endurance sometimes. My mother quit too. She has COPD and she really doesn't seem any better either. Maybe it isn't progressing the way it would have if she had smoked the last month, I don't know. But yes, this does make it more difficult. As smokers, we are very impatient people. Because the cigarette brings the drug to our brains in such a short period of time, we tend to expect that kind of wait time for everything. Long term benefits are hard for us to wait for. Lady, As always, an inspiring post for all! Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. I'm sure many will draw strength from it. Ozzgran, When you start to feel down, focus on your accomplishments, the benefits of your quit, the negatives of your addiction and make those days all about you. Spoil yourself and do things that lift your mood. Write down your feelings, post here, go to bed early and remember that tommorrow is another day and these feelings will pass! Congratulations on 5.5 months! Be proud of your progress! Danielle ____________________________ The SSC Support Team

Ladyyou have given fantastic advice and reassurance to the newbie quitters who need it as a lifeline to cling to - but, how about us medium - term quitters who need to know what happens next. I am quit 5.5 months and, after a week of feeling great(amazingly enough)- woke up this morning to a "pity party". phreaknbz, we have almost done the same "time" - my quit date 14.02.06 - and I can relate completely to your post - you said, "What I can't say is that I feel so GREAT!... Hmmm, not yet, I still don't feel great. I don't feel like a totally depressed, whiny, blob, like I did there for awhile, but I still don't feel GREAT!". Wouldn't it be lovely to feel GREAT? - Lady, when will we feel GREAT?. Its been such a long time, please don't say, "on Tuesday..."!!!!!! Love Pat.

Thanks, I needed that. I really don't feel like a smoker anymore, which is kind of interesting. But the one thing that I expected that didn't happen in the quit, was I was going to feel great! Ummm, most of the time I feel like your last post HALT (Hungry, angry, lonely, and tired). I suppose it has to do with where you are when you quit. I was in good shape when I quit, better than I am now actually, so the physical benefits are not as obvious to me as they might be to someone who was really feeling the effects of smoking physically. And what I didn't realize, was how much smoking effected my mental state. I didn't really think of myself as an addict and I didn't have any idea the emotion toll that getting "sober" aka "quitting", would have on me. I'm starting to have some skill around recognizing when I'm feeling something bad, and addressing it without smoking and finding healthy ways to cope. This journey is long. The nice thing at this point is I know that I have made it to some major milestone, because I really don't want to smoke. Sometimes it smells good to me, but I can no longer image actually putting a cigarette in my mouth, which is truly amazing and I hope it stays that way. What I can't say is that I feel so GREAT!... Hmmm, not yet, I still don't feel great. I don't feel like a totally depressed, whiny, blob, like I did there for awhile, but I still don't feel GREAT!. I can't seem to have the same resolve in other areas of my life, which I find frustrating. I keep telling myself it will all come out in the wash. My dicipline in other ares of my life will return. But gees, this road is not always easy, in fact sometimes its really hard, but I'll keep the faith because of posts like this one.
