Ok Lady My best tip is to tell everybody and keep telling them over and over to the point of boredom.!!!! I would be so shamefaced in front os so many firends, customers and suppliers if I went back now. Not only that I was AMAZED at how supportive people are the days of trying to get you back on the weed are over!!! Thats it from Uk for today Good luck Phil

Lady you will be excellent at this I wish I was there to listen. What decided me to quit is one day I was sitting outside (only smoked outside) by myself having my coffee and I thought this is so boring, what am I doing here, I haven't even eaten yet and I'm on my second cigarette, what's wrong with me. So I got up and told my hubby who was eating in the kitchen by himself, I quit that's it, I have half a carton left, put it away so I don't know where it is and then you can do what you want with it, here's my lighter. And I called my doctor's office and said it was an emergency and I needed to see him right away and I got an appointment in the afternoon. When I went to the Dr he said what's wrong? I said I want to quit smoking and I need help he said: what you haven't quit smoking yet? you're ruining your health, (remember I hadn't smoked for 6 hrs) I said listen sir I came here for help not to be judged, no I haven't and yes I want to, so give me all you have, take out the big guns, because I know I'll need them, the rest is history. Best decision I ever made. One day at a time :)Marie My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/13/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 85 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,281 Amount Saved: $340 Life Gained: Days: 11 Hrs: 6 Mins: 25 Seconds: 29

Of course it was a success, you were the speaker :). It's a lot easier to give a speech when it is a subject you are familiar with, as you are. How wonderful it must've made you feel as well as helping you with your quit by reaffirming what you already know. If one person decided to quit from that speech, job well done. I want to see you speech when you are done with it Lady, if you wouldn't mind sharing. You're going to be great! Maybe your speech and your own success will inspire one of those folks to quit smoking as well! What a wonderful opportunity. Now to answer your question: I quit smoking because it cost so much, wastes too much time, is unhealthy, sets a bad example for my kids, makes me stink and makes you a social outcast. I could go on, but I'm sure you get the picture. LOL! I have remained quit because I have educated myself; I know too much to ever go back to smoking. I have changed my life and my mind. I no longer need a drug to cope anymore. More importantly, I no long WANT a drug to cope anymore. I have all these new coping skills I've dedicated myself to learning ... and well ... it's working out great! Lady good for you! I am going to pop some threads in here that were of great help to me and some that are information. Here goes. This site in that I set myself as accountable to a group of people, I gave my word to someone other than myself that I would be quit. What led to my choice to quit was that I was having trouble breathing, I was ridiculed at Christmas by my 19 year old nephew, and I was really very angry that I was being controlled by a piece of paper and some dried up plant material with a bunch of chemicals. What kept me quit was that I set myself up to swim at a club with others and again made myself to others and not to just myself. The affects of smoking I will email to you. Have a great time! You will be a wonderful and inspirational speaker. Lady- For tobacco-related illness and effects check the website for the American Lung Assoc. Also Allan Carr's book had lots of helpful info. That's also my answer to what finally made me take the first step toward quitting. For me, it took getting really mad, (but you've heard my "Mad" speech...) I wish I had more time to do some research for you. Good luck on your speech. I can't think of a better Motivational Speaker than the one who faced it, beat it and lived to tell about it. Please let us know how it goes. We'll be rooting for you! mc My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/31/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 371 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 5,570 Amount Saved: $1484 Life Gained: Days: 36 Hrs: 3 Mins: 12 Seconds: 1

This has kind of snuck up on me but tomorrow night I am giving a speech on quitting smoking. I will be recommending this site to people who wish to quit. Tell us what helped you quit smoking so we can share it with others and help them quit. What led up to you decision to quit and then what kept you quit? Also, does anyone have any of those lists of the affects of smoking? Thanks for you help.
