Hi Bonny,
I understand how disturbing the smoking dreams can be. I've only had one so far but it was very upsetting.
The dream was not terribly vivid so I don't remember all the details. I just remember that I was going about some routine daily task, looked down at my hand and realized I was holding a cigarette. As soon as I saw it I also realized I had been smoking it. I was horrified! In the dream I did not take the cig out of a pack, did not bum it from anyone. I do not remember lighting it or actively smoking it, just noticed it in my hand and suddenly realized what I had done.
I felt so many emotions when I discovered that cigarette in my hand that I can't even describe them all. I was ashamed of myself for having smoked and terribly disappointed that I had blown my quit. I realized that I had thrown away all the progress I've made for no good reason and would have to start over from square one. Depressing!
I also remember thinking "damn! I'm going to have to reset my quit meter!"
Thank goodness it was only a dream! As upsetting as it was at the time I'm glad it happened because it reinforced a couple of things for me:
1) How important my quit is to me. It reminded me how upset I'd be if I blew my quit for real, that I need to protect it and cherish it!
2) How easily cigs can sneak back in to your life if you're not careful. I had one in my hand without even realizing it had happened.
Sounds like you're doing great despite the dreams. Big congratulations to you and your entire family on your success!
Dobie
