H, You can do it! Its all about distraction. When you find yourself alone and wanting to take a puff just come on here and post. Alot of people have this great idea of posting then waiting for 5 people to respond. Or go for walks. Drink lots of ice water and have mints or candy around. Use the tools on the left they can help, good luck ~Valic My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/12/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 15 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 77 Amount Saved: $79.5 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 1 Mins: 53 Seconds: 53

Hi H - Reading your thoughts reminded me of my own - I was a closet smoker too, but my husband knew - it was the entire rest of my world that thought i had quit in January. Being a closet smoker is a tough habit to break because you really don't have a support group when you decide to make the final break. I've tried quitting about 6 times since January, but finally made the break on July 16th. Here's how i managed it: 1) took wellbutrin, 2) read the book "The easy way to quit smoking (a must read), and 3)did mind exercises to get myself to the point when i could allow myself to be hypnotized. I bought the non-smoking hynopsis CDs online, and listened to them faithfully for about a week. The hardest part was the time leading up to the quit because i was afraid it wouldn't work (again). But believe it or not, the combination worked, and I rarely even think about smoking. My husband is a pack a day smoker, and i walk right by his cigarettes with no desire. I was shocked to find success this way, but if you can wrap your mind around the book i suggested, and also learn about hypnosis, it may work for you too!! good luck, luci My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/16/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 14 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 218 Amount Saved: $84 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 0 Mins: 7 Seconds: 31

I'm working on day 3, a little harder today. I keep thinking about smoking, just sneaking one cigarette won't hurt. Well I guess it would if I'm trying to quit. You see I have been a closet smoker, my husband did not know I started smoking again years ago. If he smelled it on me I would say I was out with the girls. I did smoke at break from work with the girls but he did not know. I would sneak smokes when he was away from home. He would take the kids out and I would sneak one in. I have been doing this for years. Since January this year I have been going 2 to 3 days at a time not smoking at work. Then the weekend would come along, you see I don't work Fridays and the kids are at school, hubby at work and I can smoke all I want at home, well outside. The people at work think I stopped in January or good. I would go for walks instead of sitting with them. Last week my hubby asked me if I started smoking again. He found a lighter in my bag when he was looking for his wallet that I put in the bag earlier. I told him that I occasionally had a smoke with friends. I feel bad all the time. I just spoke to my hubby and he told me he has a meeting tonight. The first thing that came to mind was smoking. I don't want to smoke tonight is this just a habit. I have to quit, help me quit please My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 2 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 39 Amount Saved: $19 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 5 Mins: 58 Seconds: 12

No posts for three days, so I suspect you went back to your closet. I was a closet smoker, so I totally understand. Such energy it takes to keep it all hidden. If you come back, there will be plenty of encouragement here. The freedom is wonderful. Getting there is tuff but oh soooooooooooo worth it! Just a question? It must make you feel horrible to be living a lie about smoking? Your husband must know you are smoking regularly. That septic tank breathe is far to smelly to miss. I also congratulate you on making a decision. Smoking is the devils way of controlling us. Break free of those bonds. Cast him aside and start living a better life. I expect you to do this...others have and you can too.
