How are the Lungs?

18 years ago 0 1985 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Can someone describe how much lung damage a person has after smoking for twenty to thirty years? And when a persong does quit smoking does some or all of the damage lung get repaired? I heard somewhere that your risk of getting lung cancer is like that of a non-smoker after five years of quit, is this right? Don't smoke

I just wondered. I saw a picture on the web of a set of lungs that were nearly black. It made me really sick. How awful, I dont even want to think about it. How could I allow myself to smoke and what it must have done to my lungs. If you dont want to get shocked dont go looking for smokers lungs on the web.

Stickin to it, Looking would certainly make it concrete. I think part of the struggle I have with quitting smoking is that the damage I'm doing is gradual and internal. I can't see it. If the doctor would just give me a picture of my lungs each year, I beleive quitting would get easier. You know, I've told people that even when people die, it still feels like abandonment. I know a lot of people who are struggling with the fact that they lost their parents during childhood. Like I told someone, when my parents died I was grown and could bearly handle it. As a matter of fact, I lost my mind. I didn't understand how children handle it at all. I should add that I was never raised by my parents, although they were around. I was just lied to about who my parents were. My "foster" parents left me in a mental hospital whne I was thirteen. Just didn't come back. I think I couldn't handle their dying because I had not gotten what I needed from them. I think children who loose parents have that gap. You're right. Another thing I've found is when I quit smoking, I go on a health kick. Now I can lose the weight I've been claiming that I couldn't lose because the doctors were feeding me weight gain with some of those psych meds. (Watch out for those meds. They should come with obesity warnings.) Maybe not right now, but give me a few months. I'm joining a stress reduction class. My smokes would have provided all the stress reduction I needed. I have to admit, I did ask myself today that if I was told I was dying, would I smoke? The junkie was there before I cleared my mind properly. The junkie wants no hospitalization. It does not want to have to go outside to smoke. I really want to die clean. So we're being lied to when we're shown stats on what happens to our bodies at certain quit marks? I've already suspected that a lot of it is propaganda.
