good deal, Quit. Sounds like it is in someone's home, which for some reason, sounds like a "safer" place than a restaurant or bar!! Have fun, just don't smoke, ok?? ;) My Milage: My Quit Date: 9/17/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 118 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,561 Amount Saved: $767 Life Gained: Days: 16 Hrs: 12 Mins: 28 Seconds: 34

Quit, Only you can decide if you're ready. If you have the slightest hesitation or think that maybe you might just have one or two, then don't go! It's not worth it right now. Tackle this trigger once you're a little farther along in your quit. However, if you feel strong in your quit and do decide to go, make sure you limit the number of drinks you have to just a couple. Any more will impair your judgement and the junkie talk is way harder to combat when you're not sober. Just go into this knowing that it's a trigger and make it an option that you can leave if it gets too hard. Good luck. Crave the Quit! Hi Quitordie: During the early days of my quit, I had to stay as far away from smokers as possible. The temptation was too great when there were cigeretts around. I just was not strong enough to resist. Over the years, I blew it several times within the first 2 months just from being around friends and smoking. When I made the decision to quit this time, I made a decision that nothing was going to get in my way. I was going to do what ever it took to never smoke again. I just had to lay low for a few months until my strength was in full swing.....Now I can go anywhere and I don't have to worry about whether I can resist. Sometimes the "urge to smoke" still appears while I am around smokers but I have the power over that urge that I didnt have in the beginning. If you go, prepare yourself, because I think the "urges to smoke" will be there....you just have to strong enough to say NO! I promise, it does get easier in time! You are quitting smoking, you are not quitting socialising. Go and enjoy yourself, just don't smoke. If you want to quit badly enough, it will not be a problem. My Best Wishes. Penitent d605

Josie, I have read, re-read and read once more QuitorDie's post and I cannot for the life of me see the word "alcohol" mentioned anywhwere. Why would you direct her to your sister site when she does not indicate alcohol to be a potential problem? It is the socialising aspect which appears to be her concern at this time. Thanks for the quick response Josie - I had to make the point because there are very many social activities this side of the ocean which do not involve alcohol but DO involve triggers for smoking and QuitorDie should be on her guard for everything in the social sphere which may prompt her to smoke once more. Pen, I am not instigating anything :) I made an assumption that there might possibly some drinking involved. If there is, which might be the case, I want her to have all bases covered. The site is an excellent tool for these social situations that may involve alcohol. As long as she is prepared, she can't go wrong. Thanks for your concern and let's give her the credit she deserves, "you are not quitting socializing. Go and enjoy yourself, just don't smoke" Words well put Penitent! Quit, The choice is yours :) Many will advise that this early in the game may not be feasible. I know what a girls night out without the kids can do for you and your sanity! Take the time to prepare your coping mechanisms and avoid craving situations..have a way out if necessary. Distract your self and make prior arrangements with your friend that no matter what you don't smoke. Please check our sister site www.alcoholhelpcenter.net to help you with controlling the amount of drinks. This will ensure that you stay on track and are focused. Let us know what you decide and if you need any help, Josie ______________________ The SSC Support Team.
