Not worth it anymore I don't think...

Hi Ron, I don't know how long you smoked.....probably a decade or two, right? That's a longterm addiction. How can you expect your body to heal and recover in just three weeks? It takes a little time. You have seen the worst of it during your 21 days....which is fabulous, by the way! Give yourself six months before you choose to light up again. I guarantee you won't want to do it. Ron... I don't know why you would want to smoke. You don't smoke remember? You are three weeks into this quit thing. Those are the hardest weeks and you have made it through them. Are you really ready to just throw all that hard work away and give up on yourself? A lot of surviving the quit is attitude. So many times, I have had to put my own attitude into check. In the early part of my quit I yelled at everyone. I was hateful and mean. Then I realized that I didn't have to be that person if I didn't want to be. Trust me it was not easy turning it around. We are in control of ourselves. One thing I've always told my children..."You know right from wrong, it is up to you what kind of person you want to be". That is true for adults too. It sounds like you are really tired and trust me, I know what it feels like to be tired of the quit. It is tough and it is a battle but it is a battle for your life. It IS a matter of life and death because the smoking WILL kill you. Think about that. Isn't your life worth a little bit of agony, discomfort, and a few growing pains? I'm sure it is. I do have a suggestion. Take some tylenol PM or something like that for your headache, get some rest, get out your reasons for quitting and review them (if you didn't list any now may be a good time). Spend some quality "me" time analyzing your life and where you want to be. I have no idea how old you are but it really doesn't matter. Do you want to be in a hospital bed, eaten alive with cancer, looking at your loved ones, wishing you had never smoked? -or- Would you rather be running in the park with your kids or grandkids enjoying your life and rejoicing in the fact that so many years ago you decided there was more to life than being addicted to cigarettes. One thing I've realized in my quit Ron...I have missed so much life because of my addiction. There is a whole world out there to enjoy. Don't let the cigarettes control you anymore. Take your life back and live it. You will NOT regret it. I promise. Ron, You found the secret to success here. This group is what got a lot of us through. When you feel you can't take one more step, take another, and another, and another. When you can't go on, post and let the love and support of this group help you carry the load for a while. No one can quit for you but this group sure can help. One day you will wake up and look back over the long road you have traveled and realize that you have made it. You will probably find you've made some new friends along the way as well. Freedom awaits you. Keep heading towards it. You are doing great! Hey Ron, Isn't it nice to know that so many others have been to this same place in their quits. NOT! Doesn't help a bit when you are the one there. But you keep fighting, don't give up now. Most of us have reached this " I don't know if it's worth it" space sometime after blah week. It's not new anymore, it's not exciting, and you have been fighting for a long time. Seems like a lot longer. Your tired and it would be so much easier to just let go. Look at this hard, it's a last ditch effort by your mind to get you go back to cigs. It's the heavy part of the mind game. If you can keep telling yourself that you are not going to let go, that you are in this for the win.. you can make it. Check back often and let us know how you are. Hi Ron First, Take a Breath, a couple of them. Sounds like you are heading into the 30 day pit...early...just like I did around 3 weeks. This is going to get better I promise you...I PROMISE. Some people experience sleep disturbances during the first part of there quits. I think it took almost 6 weeks for my body to totally adjust and after that it was so much better. Your Doctor might be able to help you in that area though with some sleep aids. Chicken Stix is right about making the choice to be happy. You know I had difficulty with the blues last week and it ended up that not only did I choose to be sad, I chose to smoke too. I do remember not being very happy about that...smoking. It smelled rrreeeaaalllyyy bad. I had a terrible taste in my mouth. I had a constant headache for three days, and I made myself come close to vomiting. Is that what you want? The Nicodemon is working overtime in your head. It's all lies. Straighten him out and give him a kick in the bum right out the door. Stay close and read, read, read. I'm on the messenger right now. It's a choice! Ron, I don't have much to say that others haven't already said. However I will add this. Right now, in the place where you are at, I don't think you can see any light beyond your misery. And I know from my own experience that when you are deep in that state, it's really, really hard to find any comfort in this thing you've started. I had times during my early quit (meaning the first month or so) that I just could pull my car over to the side of the road and sob. I had panic attacks, anger attacks, hyper attacks, shakes and crazies like you wouldn't believe. I finally went to a counselor who helped me find the place inside of me where I could find comfort. There's an Eric Clapton song called "Running on Faith." That's what I am asking you to do. If you can't see the light right now, please have faith that it is there. It is available to you, just like it is there for all of us. You may not see it or feel it right now, but if you can just hang on and run on faith for a bit, it will come to you. If I am honest Ron, various quitting symptoms sometimes go on for 2-3 months?? But the severity of them should begin to LESSEN! Lack of sleep and interupted sleep are a big item for many quitters. First I couldn't sleep and then I couldn't get 'enough' of it. LOL Get one of the over-the-counter sleep aids..consult a pharmist..most of them contain the drug benadryl which works great for most people. Just don't overdose yourself with them.... you are at a tough time in a quit....if you can hang in here, this will pass. and you gotta know Ron, that smoking will lead to far, far, far worse consequences that a few weeks of to little sleep. Don't even THINK about going there! You have invested WAY too much time and effort to chuck it! Put a little sticky note on the bathroom mirror....
