Loosing a Coping Mechanism?

Phillip.. Take us with you!!!!!! Print out some of your favorite posts. The ones that have really encouraged you and any you may thing that you might need. You are at 54 days and somewhere around the 60 day mark things started getting a whole lot easier for me. If you go through a rough patch just remember to keep putting one foot in front of the other and you will make it through. Since you can't post, how about keeping a journal. You can write down what you would normally post here. I have no doubt that you will be fine on your trip. If you have any problems at all you find yourself the closet library or office computer and look us up. We will still be here. Always remember to breathe. Deep breaths. You will be just fine. Believe in yourself. We will miss you while you are away. Hurry back. SEVERAL WEEKS WITHOUT THE SSC?!?!?!? I MIGHT LITERALLY DIE!!!!!!!! Phillip, I'm only 1/2 kidding there. You will probably be fine. You are preparing now, which is great and you have the drive, dedication and perserverance to get this done. I, on the other hand, went about a week without the SSC once (yes, it really did happen) and slipped... I was at day 68. And actually, 2/3 slips I've had were when I'd been away from the site. Now, I don't stray too far from this place because I find that when I do, my dedication to the quit slowly fades. This is just a warning to be careful... I know that I can't do it, but I'm certain that you can! Just come here and read when you can and keep those posts handy for when you can't get to the site to read. And one more thing... have a great trip! We'll see you smoke free when you get back! Crave the Quit! Phillip, you don't need anything to post to this board except an Internet connection and browser. You might try local libraries or cyber cafes. When Becky and I take road trips, that's what we've used with fairly good success. Becky even took care of her wedding flower business, corresponding with brides, while on the road. If where you're going is large enough, finding connectivity shouldn't be hard. One other thought, Phillip. (I'm in a hurry and too quick on the button) Many motels also provide Internet access for their business customers. Some provide computers, some do not. Shevie

The Microsoft Net Framework is just for the messenger and, I think, the quit meter. To read and post you just need a browser and Internet access. I've posted here using my old computer at work that ran Windows 95 and IE 4.0. I guarantee you it didn't have Net loaded. As for being able to read and not post, are you not able to log in on this site? That's the only reason I can think of that you could read but not post. I think it was two weeks into my quit that I needed to leave the SSC and go deal with moving my 93 year old Mom to an Alzheimer's unit. It was very stressful and also a nightmare dealing with a brother in denial. I was terrified to be away from this support system. So I took them with me. Just what Lady suggested. I made a notebook. I copied and took favorite posts. And then I posted in the notebook too and pretend answered my own posts and pleas for sanity, the supportive and wisdom-filled way that I knew folks here would respond. This journal, my belief in myself and my commitment to NOPE saved me during that time. I knew smoking would not make my Mom have a memory again, nor make my brother grow up. It wouldn't have helped anything. So....my advice is to take the advice here. Take us with you and believe in yourself. You can do this and will love yourself all the more for handling some time on your own. We will be awaiting your return (or your cyber cafe visits) with lots of pats for you back! Have a great smoke free trip. Bon voyage.
