Day 30 +++ something Coping

18 years ago 0 2614 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Coping. I don't want my life to be about coping, what do I want. I want my life to be joyful and grounded. There is a place here where I have a hard time getting anywhere close to feeling grounded, strong, sure of myself. Truth is I am not sure of myself and I don't know when I will be. For the past 30 some odd days in order to come close to being grounded I constantly have to go to other areas of my life and look at the success I have there. G-D help me if I look even momentarily at a place where I think that I have failed. So I need to constantly be bouying myself up. I find myself floating in a place where I am "faking it" telling my self that this will be successful and that I will get through. This faking thing I know is only momentary and I will get through. Yes, I will get through. I wish this was quicker and it's not. My experience says there are a lot of different physical elements to get used to and this will take time. I know, I know I am always so impulsive I want everything right away. Be patient, calm down, breath. Penguin Thank You I do need to take time every day and be still, breath. My brain has always gone a mile a minute and I do tend to go on tangents. My clarity for the day is to keep my eye on the goal. Keep about my daily activities and find out what the learning is in this moment. The journey really is the destination, the pleasure is in getting there. Taking each moment as they happen. Phillip... I have been telling you every since you got here... ONE STEP AT A TIME. You have to keep it simple. Deal with the here and now and then do what comes next. This is a life changing, soul searching process. We all have mistakes in the past, I don't think anyone is perfectly content with the person that they are. Probably every last one of us have smoked since we were teens and totally missed out on the opportunity to learn to deal with life on life's terms. We now have to go through the process of learning those lessons we should learned many years ago. It is part of growing and developing. We do it one day at a time, one step at a time and yes, sometimes it can be very painful. Don't dwell so much on the quit...live your life. Take your walks, enjoy the flowers and fresh air. Thank God for everything you have. That is what it is all about and if there is some one you can help along the way to make this a better world to live in, you do that as well. That is what it means to have a successful life. Philip Your life will not always be about coping. You will not always be in withdrawal. You will not always be obsessed with cigarettes. You will not always be depressed and feel like something is missing. Having said that, there is no way to predict what will happen and when. This is one of life's lessons about giving up control. This is one of life's lesson about learning to celebrate the temporary. This is one of life's lessons about taking each step at a time. This is one of life's lessons to not take ourselves so seriously. Unfortunately, there is no way to the other side of the river without getting wet. There is no way to the top of the mountain without taking all of the uphill steps. There is no way to rejoice in the freedom without suffering the chafing of the chains. Yes take deep breaths. Try to stop worrying about if you are always gonna feel this way (you won't). Try not to take anything, and I mean ANYTHING you are thinking and feeling too seriously for the next 6 months at least (you're unstable and in withdrawal :) And yes, keep writing and reading as you do. It helps to put it out there...and the constant feedback and support of this site is what made many of us call this journey a success. Hi Riverdale Sounds like the Junkie thinking is working overtime in you head. Slow down and Breathe. I started smoking when I was a teenager, and what I have learned through quitting is how to Grow Up. I never really learned proper coping skills, I just smoked. That's how I coped. We don't grow up over night. Yes, quitting does take a lot of effort, but I said from the beginning that I was going to do whatever it is I had to do, to be successful...even if I had to think about it constantly for a year, that's what I will do. Throughout this journey, I have brought up a lot of my "failures" and poor choices. I allowed myself to review and then said, "That is in the past. I can not changed it. I accept that I made a poor choice. I will move on now and not make that choice next time." This has really helped by not allowing the Junkie to get ahold of those excuses and use them against me. You are doing so well. This is a difficult time. The 30 day pit. You will get throught it. Keep posting.
