Hi Dreamer, Please hang in there. I am on my seventh day and this is the first day I have really felt okay. I went through tremors, mood swings, rage, sore jaws, headaches, stomachaches and crying fits. I couldnt go poop for 5 days(trust me, that almost did me in!). I stuck to it and it was nearly impossible, so many times I wanted to give up. I didnt. You dont have to give up either. Keep coming here and read and post. You are stronger than you realize. Today I got up and smoking wasnt the first thing I thought of-I couldnt believe it when I later realized it! Hang in there honey---we are all here for you. :) Denisey My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/14/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 6 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 127 Amount Saved: $30 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 13 Mins: 48 Seconds: 11

Hi Dreamer......thats a big test....those folks coming over. Do you want to go through the last couple of days again? If not you are going to need a coping strategy......smokers somethimes don't like quitters...it reminds them of their addiction and they can see you as a threat. Radical, but why not announce up front that you have stopped and would they mind smoking outside. Don't say that you are trying to quit...............but that you have quit! Dreamer, keep this thought in your mind at all times: N.O.P.E. (NOT ONE PUFF EVER). Each time you think of smoking, say this...chew in straws, beat up a pillow, whatever you must but after two or three days, the nicotine is out of your body completely! If you've already started tasting food differently and such, then it's already going out. Believe me, once the smokey smell and taste are out of your body, you will be amazed at what you CAN smell and taste now that you never could before because of the nasty smoke. Stick close to this site, pledge to "not smoke today" each and every day. Don't worry about tomorrow or even yesterday...worry about today only...tomorrow can take care of itself and yesterday is but a memory. This site has been a Godsend to me and I thank everyone here each day in my head. N.O.P.E. Dreamer...everything you feel is perfectly normal. Let's face it Quitting sucks! Big time! I quit cold turkey. Just always figured if I was going to put nicotine in my system, it would be through a cigarette and not a patch. Quitting cold turkey can be done. You are already on day 3 and the nicotine is almost out of your body. Keep yourself busy. Things really do get better but you have to go through the hell first. That's why the call the first week HELL WEEK. You are doign great. Keep going and remember Everyday is one day closer to never feeling this way again. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/1/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 203 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,067 Amount Saved: $710.5 Life Gained: Days: 17 Hrs: 22 Mins: 8 Seconds: 17

Dreamer, You are making it. One day at a time, one breath at a time. At first the cravings are many, and strong, and last f o r e v e r. You know? But just hold out a little longer. Drink plenty of fluids to help wash the nicotine away. Eat plenty of healthy snacks, and keep your hands busy. That is why being her is so good. You can't type and smoke at the same time. Keep that wallet locked up. You are saving that money for something special...what was that again? Hey have you started an exercise program yet? Try playing some music as loud as you can stand, and singing along. You will need the practice for the campfires on the beach. From what I see you will be there faster than you dream possible. Keep on breathing Cheryl No Joking, I'm Still Not Smoking!

Dreamer, When you quit smoking, particularly cold turkey, your body goes into detox. It was used to nicotine and other chemicals in the smoke to function. Now those things are gone and for a couple of weeks you are going to feel a bit off-center. THIS IS COMPLETELY NORMAL. Stuff will taste funny, you may become dizzy, your body just won't function like it did. THIS IS SHORT LIVED AND WILL END IN A SHORT TIME. The patch introduces a controlled amount of nicotine into your body to help ease the physical cravings while you get used to not lighting up. I used the patch to quit. They come in 3 strengths, 21 mg, 14 mg and 7 mg. You start with the 21 and then, over time, step down to the lesser amounts and then finally you are off the patch. The whole program takes 6-8 weeks. No, you do not smoke when using the patch. Again, all it does is help ease the physical cravings. It does not 100% eliminate them, but it makes them much more managable. This gives you the time to focus on learning how to deal with life without actually smoking. Nicoderm is a popular patch and you can go to their website to find out more information about the patch. I used the generic brand from a discount department store. Learn about the quit process Dreamer. Quitting is not easy, or a lot of fun, but once you are over the hump, after a few weeks, life does begin to return to normal. Best wishes. Be Strong. Be Smart.
