unreal...I'm with Phillip...you ladies have resolve (with a smoking partner). Phew For the first time ever, I am grateful for the tough smoking laws. Out of site, well, at least out of reach (not quite out of mind!) Keep up the great work. Hey Penguin Congratulations to you for keeping your strength, your resolve for 98 days! You are wicked strong. No one smokes in my house, my car, anywhere near my office. I very often simply avoid going anywhere near where there are smokes to buy or anywhere around. I come here read and post and pass time by doing whatever I can do to shift my thinking away. I really don't know what I would do if someone in my house smoked, I think I might go as they say a "little off the deep end". AND you get to a place where you say "I DO NOT SMOKE" Congratulations you ar doing an amazing job! Hi Penguin, I live with a (heavy) smoker, and have survived the last 104 days with him by my side. At times when I would crave a cigarette because he was having one and I wasn't, (usually after a meal, or with a drink), I would tell him nicely that I had to leave for a bit and would return when he wasn't smoking. Congratulations on your quit. I am just a little bit ahead of you, and I am waiting for you on the beach. Start putting some sunscreen on. Cigarettes Not Smoked

Penquin- blessings on you and congratulations on your very strong resolve. I also live with a smoker who, for the most part, smokes outside. He never smokes near me, and I do not bug him. He said when I quit six months ago that he was going to consider it, but now he says he is not going to quit. We do not discuss it and I do not harass him. Once in a while I will say, "I REALLY want a cigarette." He will say, "No you don't, and you can not have one." He is supportive, but has never given me a high five or anything! Hang in there, girl!! old SILVER My Milage: My Quit Date: 9/17/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 181 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 5,453 Amount Saved: $1176.5 Life Gained: Days: 25 Hrs: 6 Mins: 59 Seconds: 54

Hi, Penquin. It's really sad when one spouse quits and the other not only doesn't, but is threatened by it. Sounds like he isn't ready to quit. Maybe you should just tell him to forget his quit and keep his smoking outside and no smokes just before bed. Might end up less stressful for both of you. Congrats on near 'bout 100 days, Penquin. Bet you can hear the surf. Hi Penguin, you will remember me as the one who nearly chose to start smoking a couple of weeks ago when my boyfriend announced after months of occaisional smoking, that he was to become a full time smoker once again. Since his first serious relapse blamed on his mum's cancer scare at the end of last year, he has had such a love/hate relationship with smoking (detailed in my post "an addicts denial") and it has been incredibly confusing and emotional to live with him. Well I am back to calm now. A few days after I stopped the tears, sulks and tantrums, he has admitted the truth. He obviously feels a strong need to smoke but he doesn't enjoy it. Most of the time he doesn't just hate the idea of smoking, he actually doesn't even enjoy it. He hates the effect that his smoking is having on me. He feels tremendously guilty for upsetting me, wasting his money and risking his health. And finally, he is incredibly jealous of me for my success, but is also inspired by it, and is really going to go for it on his new quit date, 30th March. Whether or not he succeeds, I am not so bothered now that I know how he really feels. I feel immensely proud to have succeeded and you should too. I would bet anything that your husband is going through many of the same emotions as my boyfriend but won't admit it - he is worried to say he really wants to quit, because he is scared of failure, so he denies that he wants to quit. Congratulations on your massive 100 smoke-free days in 2 days time!!!!!!!! Best luck with your husband. Just know that any mention of smoking will probably make him want to smoke rather than stop. That's what I found anyway. Keep us updated anyway. I will probably need a bit of support again if boyfriend fails again cos I am really expecting him to succeed for some reason... Cigarettes Not Smoked

When I quit back in December my hubby said he would quit too. Don't know how long he lasted but he was soon smoking the little cigars (just like he has always done on previous attempts). I knew what I needed to do as far as owning my own quit and I did really good at not letting his failure influence me...until about 3 weeks ago. I let it get to me that he was indulging and I couldn't (poor me) and asked him to give some thought to a quit date. "I Quit Yesterday," he said. Well, I went ballistic. I was so upset that he thought he could just put them down and walk away, with no preparation. That hasn't worked in the past why would it work this time. I told him he wasn't going to be successful and said he'd be back to smoking in 2 days time. So he with "Just because I'm not doing it your way, doesn't mean I won't be successful." Well of course I got to say "I told you so" (not that I did), but yes he lasted about a week. Last night while lying in bed (He thought I was asleep) I smelled it. A cigarette. I did not get mad like I have done in the past. But i will remind him of his promise to respect my request to not smoke in the house. He is struggling, but it makes me stronger. I will show him that it can be done. But supportive he is not. I stayed home from work today because I wasn't feeling well.He phone to check on me. I hadn't slept all night and I told him I had lain there most of the night thinking of a cigarette. (Not true - but I always try to make a joke of it.) He asked if there was anything he could bring home for me....a pack of smokes, maybe. "Not funny." I told him. His idea of a joke. Yesterday I might have said sure, but a few of the posts last night really helped me to become more accepting of this quit. I DO NOT SMOKE.
