HALT.. I never heard that before, but at nearly 6 months into my quit, I certainly can relate to it. It seems I'm at least 2 of those at any given time ;-) I think I'll look up more on HALT for my next 6 months. Hi, I am guiting in a few days and just thinking about it depresses me. I think that it is anger turned inside out. I am depressed about all that time I spent, money I spent and energy I spent. I exposed my kids to all those deadly chemicals all these years and then, started them smoking too! I have 4 kids and all of them smoked at one time or another and only one has quit for good. (and that was not my influence but a stronger force...a girl) I work out every day and I have lost 60 pounds on weight watchers this year but , I can walk fast, I can work on the elliptical machine and do circuit training but I can't run. I tryed yesterday and got out of breath in a few feet! All because of cigarettes. I guess I am depressed instead of angry because I know I have no one to blame but myself. I didn't start back when no one knew the danger, I did. I was young and I wanted to look grown up. Now, I'm 47 and the cigarettes have made me look older all right! I feel like I could cry. The death of an uncle woke me up.All the men in my family die young from some sort of circulatory problem and every one smokes. We are american indian and it is kind of part of our heritage. That makes me angry too.

Lady, I have posted this for a couple of people and I want to also post it for you. I need all the help I can get in the next few days: I have been lurking and reading for a few days and done just a few post, don't know if you have noticed them but I have noticed that we seem to really think alike and I find a lot of your post very inspirational. Today is the day before my quit date and I have about a half a pack left. So I am doing a lot of "practicing" today. This morning I woke up and instead of sitting and staring, I did an exercize vidio that I really like. It was really hard to get up out of my chair before I even had my coffee, but I did it. Then I kind of went crazy on smoking untill I got to work. Driving without cigs is going to be really rough. Now I am here at work and I am not going to smoke untill noon. (about 4 hours.) Anyways, I really like a lot of your post so please keep me in mind this next couple of days. It's been a rough day for me. Had I had cigarettes in my home, I'm sure I would have smoked. T. Mama, Taking Lady's advice would be wise, it's important to replace your nasty habit with a new better one. Your brain will eventually make the connection that it'll only get a peppermint or whatever else you choose instead of it's precious nicotine. Good luck tommorrow, stay close. Hi Lady Hope you're feeling better this morning. Carpepax summed it up for me 'You're kicking butt, and don't let H, A, L or T tell you otherwise! I am proud of your quit and thankful for all the amazing and wonderful insight, caring and humor you bring to the table for all of your quitting friends!' Thanks again Mr Ed :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/13/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 102 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,069 Amount Saved: 765 Life Gained: Days: 17 Hrs: 1 Mins: 18 Seconds: 27

Lady, You have nailed it for me. H.A.L.T. is almost how I feel everyday - that is if I let myself. It is much to easy to take the H.A.L.T. road, instead of the long one.
I let things get to me and then it was just a spiral affect from there. It all began first thing this morning and instead of controlling my emotions, I allowed them to control me
What a true statement. If I allow myself to lose control of my emotions, I will be in a spot that I didn't want to be in. Some days I just give up, and let that H.A.L.T. control me, but for the most part, I am very good at controlling my thoughts and feelings. I've always believed in the fact that it does take energy to be miserable. I've told people over and over again that I do not have the energy to hate anything. Take care of yourself Lady. You are a great role model. Protecting our quits will be a life long job. Each and every day that you grow stronger emotionally, brings you that much strength to gain control back. ;) 4my2girls What Consumes Your Thoughts Controls Your Life My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 87 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,623 Amount Saved: $284.49 Life Gained: Days: 7 Hrs: 0 Mins: 51 Seconds: 9
