Hi  m,
I do find the news depressing and it is had to take at times. I do not watch a lot of news on tv but it is still had to escape it and what is happening in the world right now. It does seem to me that we are in the end times now.

I have a story I want to share with you and anyone who's reading here..

I had a dream once a few years back that I was in a beautiful meadow and my late husband and I were there together. We were laughing and giggling and skipping along and my own laughter woke me up from this dream. We were both very young about 12 years old and we were very happy..We were innocent and knew nothing of sickness, or death or pain and suffering and had no memory of these painful things that happen in life at all..It was so beautiful and peaceful and I can still see and feel the peace of it when I recall this dream...I tried to go back to that dream that night but could not which was very disappointing but still some how that dream gave me hope that life is better on the other side and it is waiting for me. It was the most beautiful place and feeling that I have ever felt..and feeling that give me hope and being there in the future is something I look forward to.

Hi ~m,  That is a very good question.  I certainly am sensitive to the news and found that to stop the fear and taking on negative energy is to turn the news off.  Going for a walk, using deep breathing techniques and focusing on the many blessings I have in my life, that I often take for granted, help dissipate the negative energy brought on by sad and heavy news that is happening in the world.
Putting a smile on a someone's face helps make my day that much sunnier...
What have you found works for you?

Great Question m!

I know what you mean, and there are ways to manage the news so you are informed but not overwhelmed.
For myself, when I'm in the pits of depression, I go on a news diet, in that I simply don't watch the news on the TV.   The media are famous for highlighting all the awful things that are going on in the world, and when I feel bad already, the last thing I need is to watch that.    I still get anything that is really important for me to know via listening to the radio, or scanning the newspaper if I so choose, but I don't see the gruesome details, and it does help.

Does this mean I'm avoiding?   Yes, and No...if I felt that there was a good reason for me to watch that, I would, but it serves no purpose for me.    I can't do anything to change it, if I can I do...donate to charity, sign petitions for change, that sort of thing. So the only thing I'm really avoiding is the terrible images in my mind, and I'm ok with that.

When I'm feeling good, I may watch the news, but not for hours a day like I used to....I was a news junkie, I probably watched 3 hours of news a day!

Well, actually this is more about a "New's Fast".  Just wondering how other members are managing all the terrible world news.  It's so hard to watch and not be able to do anything about the wars and weather and violence.  It just makes the depression worse.  But is not watching the news a form of denial?  Is it avoidance in a negative sense?  Or does it make good sense?  How do YOU manage the onslaught? Any thoughts, suggestions, etc. would be most appreciated.
