Transitioning back to work

Hi fixit,

It can take a lot of time to be ready to get back to work. The best thing you can do is take steps to work on challenging those negative thoughts. You can also start trying new things. They have a post about expressing yourself creatively somewhere in here. It lists idea of things to do to express ourselves. These simple things can often make big differences. It is something to keep working on. If you really enjoy working in the garden, make sure to do that! Maybe think of something new you could do with the garden this year to change it up and stimulate you.

Here for you,

Hi, Going back to work is a fearsome thing for me. I thought I was going to be able to last week but the Dr. said no. I'm afraid when I get there all the stress and fear will just come rushing back. I haven't quite gotten to  when I challenge negative thoughts I can control them. Keep trying right! Ya'll have a good Sunday. I'm going out to work in the garden and forget about things for awhile. ( I Hope)

Hi Ya AI:

Thanks very much for your response, it helps just to know someone else has been there. Hope everything is going well for you.

You are right about me benefiting by using the program, I started tonight with session 2 goals and activities. I have printed out the goal planner worksheet and am going to be thinking about 1 goal.

Take care.

In my first-ever MDD, I was out for two weeks straight.  Luckily, my supervisor was very understanding and worked with HR to count it as FMLA leave.

Caden, I know what you're feeling, and it sounds like you will benefit from working through the CBT here.  I know it has helped me immensely.  You'll find ways of understanding the "non-invites," challenging your thoughts so that they aren't as threatening.

Work is kind of like food, we're all going to deal with it, and we can't really function without it, so we can't give it up cold turkey, nor can we binge on it.  Dealing with working with depression is something that is learnable, even with your three-year track record.

Hi Guys:

I have been unemployed for over 3 years due to my emotional roller coaster(PD, GAD, 2 bouts of depression all without meds)  I am now in an unpaid work placement as a re-integration back into the work force.  I am not transitioning very well, you see they had a couple of pot luck lunches at the office & I was never invited.  I got very angry about it & am now agitated all the time, depressed and extremely self conscious.  I told myself that I wasn't worth inviting, I am less than the others.  I carry this inferiority around with me all day and can't seem to shake it.

Oh I know from working in offices for over 10 years that there is always going to be office politics but I always think of the negative & don't see any other possible explanation.  This is wearing me down, no I tell myself that since I can't handle this situation I will never be able to work full-time again.

Members,

Have you taken a leave of absence from work? Are you anxious at the thought of returning?

Please know you are not alone and absence from work related to mental illness is more common that you think. Luckily, you have a great group in which to talk about it!

What worries you the most? If you’ve transitioned back to work, do you have any tips for those currently in the process?
