lamictal and abilify and klonopin

lol, I'm still not taking the klonopin.  The addictive issues in the family with those that have gone before and those that are still around make me anxious to not be anxious (lol).  Sometimes someone at work will say slow down "Goofy" *you know they really don't call me that; even though my office is filled with Disney Goofy stuff*  I will then do some of that controlled breathing, start walking slower and start thinking slower.  I've never had to deal with going to fast with the depression or even this fast before the depression.  At first I was embarassed for them to say this to me, after much thought, I'm grateful though I don't express it (maybe I should, but then I might be embarassed again).

I've not had to deal with panic issues in a long time; so that makes it easier to not take the klonopin; I don't feel like I can't get through it and so far manage to, but with much discomfort and cognizant of the anxiety so it is a distraction and affects my concentration and word retrieval (argh, I hate that part).

Thanks

Hiya Goofy,

I am glad to see you have a psychiatrist that you like! Feeling respected is everything and it is great he is keeping his eyes and ears open!

As for listening to you rant, you are most welcome. Hey, this is what we are here for, to support each other! Btw, I totally agree that sometimes insights into ourselves are hard to swallow, but hey, it helps us grow and get strong!

And yes, it makes sense to me. You feel the depression but as you work the program and challenge your thoughts, the depression may not be gone yet but it is easier for you to deal with. I totally get it. It makes complete sense to me.

As for the klonopin, I think you need to respect yourself with it. Whatever is best for you, you will figure out!

As for eliminating sugar, let me know how that goes. I have eliminated all caffeine (tea, coffee, chocolate) but cannot seem to shake the sugar. Oh and congratulations on giving up coffee, it is not an easy thing!

Anyway, I hope this message finds you in better spirits. Please let me know how you are!

Hi Goofy,

Glad to see that you are finding your way through your options and that you have come up with a plan that works for you - for the time being.

We are all here to listen and support you and each other. Medications do offer some solution but the support of others who can understand and appreciate the same thoughts and feelings is invaluable ( until Diva can get her hands on the pixie dust and magic wands!).

Enjoy your week,

Diva, I see a psychiatrist.  I think he is great, he did say he'd keep his eyes and ears open to new medications that may be approved and we would see if any of them "fit".  He also listens to me and lets me have input.  I feel respected by him and this is important to me.

Thanks for listening to me rant.  I do find this site extremely helpful as well and am very appreciative of all the feedback I get and the information provided by the moderators and the insight I get into my self from the sessions.  Sometimes that is a hard pill to swallow - but I think I'm getting stronger every day.

Does it make sense to you that I know (feel) the depression, but it is easier to contend with as I challenge the negative thoughts? and work through the whole program (also with the meds, the therapy, etc.)

As far as the klonopin, I'm chicken but I'm going to take it when I need it, break them into quarters first if that doesn't ease it then take another quarter of a pill, etc.  I also need to eliminate sugar.  I think that would help some with the tense feelings and maybe the anxiety too.  But I so love sweet tea!  I did give up coffee

Hey Goofy,

I am sorry to hear that there are not anti-depressants your doctor feels comfortable prescribing for you. Is he a GP or a psychiatrist? Anyway, one way or another I am sorry to hear that you are disappointed.

As for the klonopin, I totally get what you are saying. I I deal with the same issue. What is too little, what is too much, how do I not get hooked?... But a friend told me I wouldn't go around blind just so I didn't depend on glasses to see, so why do I go around without medication when I need it. I am still not sure what I think of this overall. I struggle really badly with taking any medication. But I think you are aware of these things and as such you will make the right decision for yourself. And as you said, if the anxiety sets off your Meinere's disease then that should be taken into account too. I found, personally that talking to my doctor helped me a lot. I also found that discussing this with my pharmacist went a long way in helping me with this also.

I think you are an incredibly brave and strong woman and am really impressed with how you deal with all of this. As for looking for a quick fix for severe spells, I guess we all wish we had one. I would take pixie dust and magic wands over this any day! Unfortunately I have found no such thing as of now. But I do find the support of the people here immensely helpful.

I am glad to hear you son is rallying around you. You deserve it!

Hang in there and keep us posted! And please feel free to rant with us anytime!

Wildcat, we decided to forgo the graph at the Feb. 9th appointment.  I told him I was graphing on here and that it was "translatable" to his form any time he wanted it.  Whew!

He said basically there aren't anymore anti-depressants that he felt comfortable prescribing for me, upped my klonopin to deal with the anxiety, and wants to monitor things every month for a while.  I am still fighting the depression, trying to find an upside to all of this, working the CBT sessions, and seeing my therapist.  Oh, and taking my medications though I don't take the klonopin as prescribed.  I'd rather deal with the anxiety if at all possible and sometimes I can and sometimes I can't.  I wonder if not dealing with it effectively causes the onset of the severe Meniere's episodes (another post)?  I might be more compliant with the klonopin if I thought it did.  I do have a fear of become addicted to the klonopin, hence my caution in taking it frequently, etc.

I was a bit disappointed that there wasn't something to help me combat the depression.  I'm still looking to find the upside of this and though I am depressed, trying to remain positive, keep my sense of humor, and be thankful for the treatment options that I do have available.  I guess I just want a quick fix for the severe spells of depression.  I think my son was quite disappointed as well.  Though he rallied to help me when possible.  Another thing I'm thankful for!

Ah well, enough ranting about not having anything else to take.  Though I pretty much new that or I wouldn't be on lamictal for treatment resistant depression.  I have another post I'm going to type in a more appropriate place about my ongoing issue with my Uncle.

Wildcat, Thanks for the info.  I took written notes for future use.

I called my doctor and he said stop taking the abilify.  He also agreed with me to monitor the moods until I see him on Feb. 9th.  I'm documenting even more....I love paperwork (lol).

hi goofy.

I hope things are better.  Have you thought of asking your pharmacist for drug interactions and allergy ractions?  Up here they are all linked to the hospital systems and have access to a service to see what is the level required to be toxic ... and for children Ste-Justine has it up 24/7 though the call-up health info lines.

Goofy,

Yes, hormonal drugs may suppress the effects of Lamictal (decrease the concentration).  Please discuss this and your symptoms with your doctor or your Gyn.  Hope you are able to reach them!
