Want out of depression

Hi CindySue,

Welcome to our wonderful support centre. You have reached the right place for lots of great advice, encouragement and support. Please do review the program and tools available to you. As you work through the sessions you will discover a lot about yourself and your thought patterns. The homework can be challenging at times, but in the end it is all worthwhile in helping you to better understand and conquer depression.

As for living in a different country, what about taking language classes to learn the language in order to communicate better? It is understandable that the language barrier can leave you feeling incompetent and uncomfortable but hopefully in time that should get easier. I hope you do find ways to interact with others so that you can build a social circle and feel more comfortable in a new environment.

Good luck and post often!

Welcome to the forum. I say this to everyone that joins, but this is a great, safe place to express your feelings and there are people that really understand you. The support is great. All the best with the program and keep us posted with how you are doing.....

Stardust,
Thanks so much for your reply. Yes, I'm also in that situation where I don't speak the local language well, and I feel like after the time I have been here I should be better so it is a constant drag on my feelings of self-worth, and naturally it makes me feel less confident, competent, and harder to just go out and have fun interacting with other people. But for the time being I am staying here in this country so I need to find a new way to think about/deal with this.

Hi CindySue
Welcome. I am fairly new to the site and also found great waves of relief washing over me when I stumbled across it.
Wow sounds like we may be suffering from similar external reasons for depression Scored 77). I too  am living in a foreign country where I dont speak the language (well only enough to sort of go shopping etc). I know how you are feeling - totally isolated and desolate. Hope you find what you are looking for on this site. For me it is a ray of light in a dark tunnel.

Hi Everyone,

I have found myself utterly miserable, withdrawn, self-isolated, with no pleasure in life or will to do anything I used to do. Yikes, sounds bad when I write it down like that. I pretty much had a breakdown yesterday and found myself on the internet searching for depression help. I found a questionaire from the book "Feeling Good" and I scored an 87 out of 100 which is ranked as extreme depression. I knew I was in a bad state but it was interesting to see in black and white that yes, I was depressed, and not just a little. However I'm not feeling at all suicidal. While I don't want to die, I do feel that in many ways I had given up on living. The thing is that for the past few years I've been living in a foreign (to me) country where I'm not very happy (my husband was born here). Lately I have withdrawn into such a shell- no job, no socializing, no fun, horrible dark outlook, no motivation, low self-esteem,...but I must not be THAT bad because I AM feeling excited about taking steps to get out of this black hole with these CBT techniques. It's a great relief to find this information that seems to have been written specifically for me, it is so on target with what I have been going through.

Well anyway, there is my hello, and I send my well wishes to all of you who are also here seeking relief from depression.
