Depression and Worry

Anxiety is the main reason I have a hard time keeping a job. I am working on trying to keep my anxiety lowered but with everything that has gone on the past few months it is definitely not an easy thing to do.

Mom of 3, that was a ray of sunshine for me - they go together!  It is also something I will address with my psychiatrist.  Meds to help with both not just one!

hello,
yes when depression gets better, anxiety will lessen. they go hand in hand MDD and GAD. like hitler and stalin. maybe first is the depression and then anxiety follows in it's wake. some SSRIs treat both simultaneously. good luck!

I can also relate to this. I have always been a bit of a worrier but since the depression started, all the symptoms listed have manifested. While on my previous medication, I also experienced 2 panic attacks but hopefully that is over now as I am on new medication. My doc thinks I may have GAD anyway. When the depression gets better, will the anxiety?

I was diagnosed with GAD as a teenager, so yeah I get this! I find I have been steadily improving with age and well therapy lol. I am not a mellow individual by far but I am much better! So hang in there all you worriers, getting out of the vicious cycle of worry is possible!

Ditto Mom of 3's comment.  I have a tough time not worrying about things that are unrealistic, may never happen, or projecting something from the past onto a current event or situation!  EVEN THOUGH I RECOGNIZE THEM AS SUCH!   I ditto the "h--l" comment too.  sorry got a little frustrated there with the caps.

Yes!  Constantly.  Between depression and anxiety, life is h--l.

Members,

People who are depressed or sad often worry. In fact, worry is one of the most common symptoms of anxiety in depression. People who worry all the time may meet the formal diagnostic criteria for generalized anxiety disorder (GAD).

GAD is an anxiety disorder characterized by excessive or unrealistic worry over many issues including work, school, health and family. The intensity, duration or frequency of the anxiety and worry is far out of proportion to the actual likelihood or impact of the feared event. In addition, people with GAD may experience:

  • Restlessness
  • Feeling on edge
  • Easily tired
  • Difficulty concentration
  • Irritability
  • Muscle tension
  • Problems with sleep

Both depression & anxiety are characterized by negative repetitive thinking. Although the specific content may be different, the underlying processes may be similar.

Do you frequently worry?
