Blueangel, It's normal to be sad your first time away from home. You are just adjusting, give yourself a little time. If you're interested, we do have a depression test and subsequent CBT program you can work through. This could help you get on a path to working out some of the issues you mentioned. Welcome to the boards!

Hey, Blue Angel.. I should say that I'm in Ontario, Canada and not from Wisconsin... I just understand the nature of long cold winters a bit and i sympatiize with you... I grew up in a temperate climate where I had cherry blossom in mid to end March! Here I have to buy a bunch of cut daffodils to stick in the window in end of march... and the snow doesn't disappear here until Mid-April!! Soon you can join in the tough-talk we Northereners get into when we grumble about the softies who live in the sun permanently!! If you're really having a hard time with the blues turning to depression you should check in with your local doctor and see if you can't get some kind of mood elevator like an SSRI on prescription... Hi, Thanks so much for your response. Yeah it has been quite the change. I do talk to my parents everyday. I have just been having a rough go at the change.I have been like this since I was a little girl. If ever I was far away from my "nest" I would get abnormally homesick. I have been here a week and a half. Tuesday I start my new job so I am hoping that helps me some emotionally. I just feel so lost and out of my element. Thank you again for responding, I appreciate that.

Hiya, BlueEngel, Sounds like you have a real case of what we immigrants call the "Homesickness"!! And yes, it's a helluva jump from the warmth of Califa to the biting winds and deep freeze of Wisconsin. It really is a culture shock situation and something that you have to learn to live with. As for your missing your family, all I can suggest is that you set up your IM in Windows or Skype and chat verbally for free to your folks at home as often as they're on their computers... I do it with my wife in South Africa and it helps that unavoidable separation anxiety we feel being apart. Welcome to the site here and try your best to get out and get into the life of being a Wisconsonite... you're young and you could learn how to do all that outdoorsy stuff like skiing and skating and ice fishing and snowball throwing ... Hey, Christmases are much more "authentic" in our Northern world! Patrick

Hi everyone. I am so glad I found this site. I am feeling depressed lately. I just moved from California to Wisconsin. I moved here to be with my boyfriend. I am thinking that I am suffering from some sort of adjustment disorder with depression. I am very close to my parents in fact I lived with my dad for years. I am also adopted I think this plays a bit into my having such a hard time being so far away from home. I feel bad because I am an adult and in my mind I "shouldn't" be feeling this way but I do. I feel lost as I have never lived away from home other than one time and that was just twenty minutes away. I am glad to be here.. thanks for listening of in this case.. reading
