I've only ever been in acute wards so can't tell you about any other, specialised, psychiatric wards. I find them boring, really all they do is keep you safe. There's very little in the way of therapy or help. It's a chance to rest and regroup but that's it. Also, acute wards suck because you've got all kinds of different disorders in one place and some people's crazyness can be a real pain in the ass. As I understand it, specialised clinics/wards can actually be very helpful so you may want to check that out.

HI Delurk, Thanks for sharing your story. I have a question to ask you down below if you do not mind aswering. In the mean time here is my story. I am 50 years old and have suffered from anxiety / depression most of my life. First when I was a teenager and then on and off over the past 28 years. I have been in an exteme anxious state for the past 2 years and am on long term disability from a very high level job. I cannot seem to shake this no matter what. I have genetic defect som I ma unable to take most medications. This is destroyin me and my family. I see 2 physchiartrists a week and nothing helps. This is tearing me and my family apart. I have always overcome my depression / anxiety but this time nothing works. I think that I have given up! I have a genetic defect that does not allow my body to process most psychiatric drugs that are processed through the CP450 2D6 enzyme. I am currently on 200 Mgs of Seroquel and 600 Mgs of Gabapentine and upto 1.5 Mgs of Ativan. These are not working out so well for me either. I have tried a whole host of medications over that past 2 years without any success. I had been on a very low dose of Zoloft for about 5 years and all of a sudden it just stopped working. When I was on the drug I became very manic and I had to go off of it. My blood was sent to the Mayo Clinic for testing and this identified my genetic problem. I have tried Remeron, Celexa, Buspar, just being on Ativan, Clenazpam, Prozac, Sinequan, Norpramin and Triadapin. None of these worked for me at all. I am very concerned that nothing is working for me and that I may wind up in the hospital. This TERRIFIES ME!!!!!!!!!! Can you tell me what happens in the hospital if you care to share. I would appreciate it. Thanks Torstanley.

I found this site today and will do my best to complete this programme. I'm also working with a psychotherapist at the community mental health centre. At the beginning of this year I spent some time in a mental health ward and since I really, really don't want to go back there I'm quite motivated to beat this depression! Cheers, Grimo1re
