Change in Medication

I am writing from the UK. I was on venlafaxine(effexor)for a couple of years. It is a a combined SSRI and SNRI (selective noradrenaline reuptake inhibitor). It worked as an antidepressant but left me kind of semi detached emotionally. I couldn't engage with people on an emotional level and felt emotionally flat. This is apparently not uncommon with venlafaxine. I have since stopped taking venlafaxine and am now taking mirtazipine (zispin) and citalopram (cipramil). My doctor feels that it easier to controll the dosage taking the two types of drug seperately. She may have a point as I feel better on the new drugs. However there are always different side effects to contend with.

ive heard that effexors very good but it gave my friend a very bad tempor. have you tried taking more than one kind mabey the combination of two could be what works? one could give you the energy you need and help the anxiety while the other works on the depression.i dont really have any names to give you that would be something you should discuss with your docttor about trying though. i heard something good about leprexo? dont know how to spell or provigil.

I've been on SSRIs for about five years now. I started off on Paxil, got really bad side effects, went on Celexa, liked it but had to change relatively quickly for insurance reasons, went on Zoloft (hated it-did nothing for me) and now I've been on prozac for almost three years. While Prozac has worked, I'm becoming more and more depressed. I heard that SSRIs stop working after a time; is this true? Also, since I haven't been really happy with any SSRI I've tried, do you think it would be worth it to try something like Effexor? Has anyone else been in a situation that the SSRIs make everthing better, but not ideal, and switched to something else they liked more? I'd love some stories! Thanks!
