Mmmm Chocolate!

Did you know that dark chocolate,  that contains 70% or higher cocoa, has many health benefits?!

Dark chocolate contains polyphenols which work as antioxidants in the body.
Antioxidants protect the body from ageing and helps prevent heart disease.  The flavonoid content in dark chocolate also helps  reduce blood pressure!

In addition to its heart benefits, dark chocolate tastes good(!);  stimulates the production of endorphins which give a feeling of pleasure;  and contains serotonin, therefore helps as an anti-depressant!

The key is balancing the calories!  All you need is 100 grams (~3.5 ounces) a day to receive the health benefits mentioned above - without increasing your waist size.

Treat yourself to a little dark chocolate this weekend!

My Fears

Goodmorning everyone,

CdnGuy, you have commented on a good point about a very common cause of exhaustion.  These days we are out of balance with our 'fight or flight' mode versus our need to 'rest and digest'!  Our adrenal glands secrete hormones that originally helped us respond to dangerous situations (the fight or flight mode).  Now we have a similar physical reaction to perceived stress, not situations that are necessarily valid for the fight or flight mode.
It is important to regain the balance and take time to include more 'resting & digesting'!

Sunny had made some excellent suggestions on how to reduce stress

Members,
When did you last take time out for yourselves?  What activities did you do to reduce feelings of stress?

Quote of the day

Hi Hugs,
Yes, fear can be the worst motivator.  Everyone at one time or another has fear of failure, yet it is one more step towards success!

Accomplishments and other Postive Things

Hi Hugs,
Glad to hear that not only the test was ok, but that you didn't miss out on chocolate AND had
ready-made, home cooked meals to enjoy!
The small pleasures in life can make all the difference .

Quote of the day

Hi Hugs4U,

You make a good point about living in the present.  We often overlook the small details in life that bring us joy, that make us smile.  I recently came across a book called "The Book of Awesome".  In it, the author presents situations in life that often makes us smile and give us the sense of small victories.  For example, two cookies melting together in the oven    or the series of pictures you take before you get that one perfect baby picture... the list goes on and on.

I challenge all the members to think about the 'small victories' you experience throughout your day.  What is it that puts a smile on your face today - and remember to share them with us.

Improving Time Management Skills, II

Members,

In the past week, we’ve been talking about stress management. A great preventative strategy for stress is to buff up on your time management skills. Here are a few tips:

°Learn to delegate: You are a busy person, you can’t take care of every detail. Look at the people around you. Who could help share the load?

°Prepare: Take some time at the end of the day to plan your next working day. This will help keep the office at the office and when you go to bed, you won’t toss & turn worrying about your next working day.

°Take your breaks: You are much more effective if you mind & body has small periods of rest in between draining tasks.

°Judge well: Learn to judge the difference between urgent & important tasks. Often times we are interrupted by people or projects which seem urgent but in actual fact could be prioritized to a later time or the next working day.

We now invite our members to share their time management tips & tricks! Do you find it difficult to prioritize?

Hello to all...

Hi Drivin-n-Cryin'

Sounds like you are on the right track!
As you mention, it is the small steps we take to achieve the ultimate goal.  No matter if the feelings you get through exposure are painful or joyful,  you will come to a better understanding of yourself and the world around you.

Thank you for sharing & keep up the good work!

Feeling of being worthless...

Hi JBeets,

Great news regarding your job interview!
I hope you are more excited than anxious about this opportunity.
What is it you are anxious about?  Is it the interview or the commute to the office?

As many have mentioned previously, don't forget the importance and impact of deep breathing!
Taking time to breath helps in any situation causing anxiety.
If it's the interview...remember to be yourself (you can't go wrong!)
Maybe you could look into the opportunity to car pool to the office?

These are just a few thoughts to start.
Don't be hard on yourself with the 'what ifs..' they are frustrating if you dwell on them.
Focus instead on the progress you've made and try to take it one step at a time.

Thank you for sharing and let us know how the interview goes...
all the best,
