Blank / stuck brain

Hi justducky,

What you are feeling sounds like it could be a side effect of the medication you are on.  Have you seen your health care practitioner recently about this?  Even though it has been 2 months since switching up the dose, I suggest you let your doctor know about what your experiencing.

Hugs4U:  you raise a good point regarding the pace of everyday life!  Too often we go through the motions without checking in with ourselves and our internal needs.

Did you know?

Panic disorder can appear as a result of prior anxiety attacks. Individuals who suffer from anxiety attacks may be so concerned about having another attack that they develop panic disorder. When panic disorder becomes severe it may also result in agoraphobia and severely interfere with the individual’s ability to live a normal life.

Coping strategies

Hi Sid,

It's great to hear that your use of 'distraction' helped you successfully cope with the situation at the mega store.  Its also admirable that you have chosen not to walk away from what could be a distressing situation with the sales persons, but to address the (unacceptable!) circumstances with the manager.

Let us know the outcome and how you felt through this experience.

On a slightly different note, in order to not lose what you have typed and edited before being logged out,  you could try the following:
 - highlight all the text that you wrote
-  Press the 'ctrl' key + 'c'  at the same time to COPY text
- Press the 'ctrl' key + 'v' at the same time to PASTE text.

*If you work on a mac computer, use the key with the apple symbol instead of the 'ctrl' key.

Hope this helps!  Keep up the good work!!

My Fears & Anxious Thoughts...

The discussion on feeling invisible is interesting.  I'm wondering what members have found helpful in making
the transition from feeling invisible to visible?

For example,  Hugs4u mentioned making an effort to participate instead of being a bystander.

What other tips would you offer?
When was a time in which you felt visible?  empowered?

Why Am I Always Told To Work The Program?

Members,

Research has also shown that behavioral therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) can be very effective
for treating panic disorder and agoraphobia.

Types of Therapy: Support Groups
Self-help and support groups are the least expensive approach to managing panic disorder and agoraphobia,
and are helpful for some people. A group of about 5 to 10 people meet weekly and share their experiences,
encouraging each other to venture into feared situations and cope effectively with panic attacks. Group
members are in charge of the sessions.

Often family members are invited to attend these groups, and at times a therapist or other panic disorder
expert may be brought in to share insights with group members. Information on self-help groups in specific
areas of the country can be obtained from the Anxiety Disorders Association of America.

Behavioral Therapy
Behavioral therapy focuses on changing your specific behaviors by using several techniques to help you
decrease or stop unwanted behavior. It often includes learning relaxation techniques. By learning to relax,
many people acquire the ability to reduce generalized anxiety and stress. Generalized anxiety and stress often
set the stage for panic attacks.

Breathing exercises are often included in behavioral therapy. Breathing exercises teach patients to control
breathing and avoid hyperventilation€”a pattern of rapid, shallow breathing that can trigger panic attacks.

What treatments are you utilizing at the moment?

I need advise how to overcame social phobia and agoraphobia.

Davit,

You offer wonderful advice.  A simple smile goes a long way and can brighten anyone's day!

Agg, Have you tried working through some of the programs offered on the Panic Site?
There are some worksheets that you can find under:  ToolBox - Auxillary Sessions - Shyness & Sensitivity.
Here you will find a section called Challenging Difficulties.  You may find this helpful in understanding causes of social anxiety and how to overcome it.

I read a quote from a member in another site that read "failure is another step towards success".   Don't think of yourself as a failure!  Your participation in these forums shows that you are open to the advice and support from others and taking steps towards improving your personal well-being.

Thank you for sharing and let us know how you are doing!
