Finishing a NRT

Hi anjel,

With Nicotine Replacement Therapy, blood concentrations of nicotine peak more slowly, reaching much lower levels than when you smoke. You don't experience the nicotine "rush," but you also don't experience the painful cravings and withdrawal symptoms associated with quitting.

Members, what have your experiences been with withdrawals upon completing your NRT?

Smoking Spouse

Hi anjel,

No need to apologize for venting your frustration. Quitting smoking can be a challenging experience, especially if those around you are not genuinely supportive. You said it best you are responsible for your quit, you own your quit! Prove to yourself that you can do this, and eventually everyone else will see it too.

Surviving Hell Week

Hi Mamma D,

Huge congratulations on being smoke-free for 8 days! Way to go! Continue to work hard and stay strong. Take a close look at "When would I be tempted to slip?" in Milestone 4 of the program. This will provide you with a great insight into how to be prepared for challenging times and moments of temptation.

How was this activity useful to you? How will you incorporate these suggestions into your quit?

Members, how did milestone 4 help you with your quit?

Well here it goes ...

Hi Kat,

Great work on being smoke-free for 5 days! It sounds like you have put in place a reward system, good on you! If you haven't yet done so, check out milestone 5 where you can set up a reward plan. This section of the program also gives some sample reward ideas etc. How will this actually be helpful to you?

Members, how have rewards shaped your quit experience? How did milestone 5 assist you?

Need advice!

Hi Kat,

First of all congratulations on 12 days smoke-free! The best ways to remain smoke-free are:
Pay attention to the progress you've made.

Review gains:
- in your health and sense of well being
- adjusting to life without smoking,
- coping with the desire to smoke,
- becoming a person who is seen as a non smoker.

Continue to keep your determination to stay quit. When that wavers review your reasons for quitting.Look ahead to the next rewards that you'll get from not smoking. Consider the high risk situations that you will face in the future. What are they? In the next week, month, year?

Milestone 4 has a great section on when you will be tempted, work through this activity it will help you learn ways to cope with tempting situations.

Members, how did you remain strong when experiencing cravings?

New

Hello Captainhappy,

Welcome to the SSC and congratulations on deciding to kick the habit!

We strongly encourage you to prepare for your quit using the program. Quitting smoking is not only a habit, it's an addiction. This program is going to help you plan how to deal with cravings and more importantly teach you how to replace this old habit with a new one.

You'll also need to put into place a reward system. It should have three components: small one for after each craving, medium for the end of each smoke-free day and a bigger one for the end of each smoke-free week.

Start reading through the forums, you'll quickly realize that many have felt just as you do now and they are now non-smokers. You'll also be able to find a lot of tips and tricks to help you along the way.

Good luck & check back soon!
