OCD

Dear Members,
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) occurs when anxiety manifests itself through persistent and uncontrollable thoughts (obsessions) or by the compelling need to perform one or more actions repeatedly (compulsion). Compulsions are usually related to the obsessive thoughts that individuals possess.

Obsessions tend to focus on:
- Fears (such as being contaminated by germs)
- Doubts (such as forgetting to lock the door)
- Impulses (such as hurting oneself or others).

Compulsions consist of actions such as:
- Cleaning
- Checking
- Actions that prevent impulses from occurring

Do you have any questions about OCD or similar behaviour patterns? Please ask, share your experiences or comment.

Depression & Panic - Which Program Should I Do?

Cathie,

Welcome to our Panic Center Support Community!  The Panic Program is 12-weeks and involves tools that will help you with your panic issues.  Each session is based on the previous session, so we strongly advise that you work slowly through the program and not jump ahead.

Our Depression Program contains similar tools and sessions though depression and panic disorder are both different and similar in various aspects.  CBT (The Depression Program) requires a lot of work and it may be overwhelming to work on both programs at the same time.  Which ever is of more pressing concern to you and your psychiatrist, I would suggest you start off with that one and take advantage of the relevant tools in the other.  Print off your test results and consult with your psychiatrist to hear what he has to say about them.

If you have any questions or concerns with our tools, you can contact us at support@paniccenter.net

Please continue to strive forward and lean on us for support

Lousy Day

Cadenmccallum,

How do you challenge your other anxious thoughts?  I know you have read these questions before, but it is helpful to answer some of these questions everytime you encounter anxious or negative thoughts:

1. Is it "true"?
2. How do I know it’s true?
3. Is it 100% true? (remember something that is 75% or 99% true is
    not 100% true)
4. What's the evidence for it being true?
5. What’s the evidence against it being true?
6. Has it ever happened before?
7. What's different now?
8. If it were true, how bad would it really be?
9. What's the worst thing that could happen?
10. If the worst thing happened, how bad would it really be?

Please feel free to add any tips or strategies you find helpful when trying to challenge your anxious thoughts.

Take deep breaths and try to relax.

Acute Stress Disorder

Dear Members,

Today will conclude the last of our talks on specific anxiety disorders. Thanks for your contributions in past discussions.

Acute stress disorder is characterized by symptoms similar to those of post-traumatic stress disorder but the symptoms have been present for less than 4 weeks following the traumatic event.

new and scared

Judy,

Welcome to our online support community!  There are many people within this support group that share the same questions and concerns as you.  We are all a group of individuals who support each other.

If you look to the left of the screen under "TOOLS" you will find many supportive tests.  These tests are not diagnostic tools and are not a replacement or substitute for a physician's advice. The purpose of these tests is to prepare you with information that you can present to your physician. When you're finished the test, you can either print your Final Report or email it directly to your doctor.

We also have developed a Panic Program.  This program is 12-weeks and involves the tools mentioned above.  Each session is based on the previous session, so we strongly advise that you work slowly through the program and not jump ahead.

These tests may or may not be for you but they are "free".  If you have any question or concerns with our “TOOLS”, you can contact us at support@paniccenter.net.  We are open to any questions or concerns you may have.

Please continue to strive forward and lean on us for support.

Did you know?

Dear Members,

Did you know:  Panic disorder without agoraphobia is equally common in men and women?  However, agoraphobia occurs more often in women than men. Approximately 80% of severe agoraphobics are women.
