Warmest Greetings!

I wish to extend a warm welcome to all in this forum. You are invited to post messages about mastering your fear. While the fear is specific, you need not feel you have to go into every detail to explain it. Discuss your fears and explore them. Do you have adequate strategies to manage them? Others like yourself may have been there too, and may shed some insights. Welcome! -- Anne-Marie, Site Administrator

Welcome to The Panic Center!

Welcome to The Panic Center Support Group! Welcome to our opening day! As this site is launched, please take the time to browse through the excellent resources provided here. I am thrilled to be a part of this site. There are lots of goodies here for the diagnosed, the curious, and the professionals. If you feel you suffer from panic attacks, feel free to study the material on the site. Take the panic test! Find out how you can best use it. Visit the library. Explore the site in detail. There€™s a lot to see, and good information for sufferers and professionals alike. You are invited to post to give support to others. How to post? We can support someone by showing our understanding of what they are going through. If you share a tip that worked for you, or have experience in coping, please feel free to share it. We do not offer individual medical, pharmaceutical, or therapeutic advice, nor urge anyone to go against the advice of their therapist. Within those parameters of not telling another what they should do, or what medication they should take, we can still help each other. Panic disorders are real, and often very frightening for those who suffer from them. A kind, and a positive, encouraging attitude are what help. Posts are moderated based on the User Agreement. Please make sure you have read it. In order to get the maximum use of this Support Group, please post your messages in the appropriate forum. New members will best be helped in this way. Thanks, and WELCOME! -- Anne-Marie, Site Administrator

What is Agoraphoba?

Hi, Red! Welcome! Let me clarify first that the test does not diagnose. Only certified professionals do that. What it does is point out a possibility of something that need to be discussed with your health professional, Dr or Primary Care Physician. The site's glossary (please see link on the left in The Library) defines it as "a fear of being in a situation in which escape would be difficult or help would not be available in the case of a panic attack. Often results in increasing avoidance of certain things, places or situations." Does this ring a bell? -- Anne-Marie, Site Administrator

Welcome!

Hi. Sorry to read about your car accident. It sounds like you're dealing with a couple of issues, including quitting smoking. What is this tailspin like? And how do you usually handle a setback? Have you tried the same strategies this time, and what happened? This message was edited by am on 1-24-02 @ 7:40 PM

What is Agoraphoba?

That is so interesting. I don't have the answers, of course, but your reflection plus the test results give food for discussion with your therapist, don't you think? -- Anne-Marie, Site Administrator

Hi! Welcome!

So true! Your comments make me question the degree of my own recovery from a bad car accident some time ago. My nervousness arose unexpectedly when recently, not as a driver but as a passenger, I accompanied a student driver. Baby steps for me in that passenger seat. I too will probably learn a lot from you, as Melanie and I have from the quitters on the stopsmoking.net site. What an asset you will be to this group! I hope you will bookmark this page (just drag and drop the little icon from your browser window to your links bar and voila!) and return often, Red. -- Anne-Marie, Site Administrator

Welcome!

Well, Red, you are to be commended (applause, applause!) for sticking with your QUIT. Many people relapse without additional factors to help in that regard. I'd love to hear more about this notebook, what goes into it, how it's updated, etc. -- Anne-Marie, Site Administrator

Welcome to the site and the online Anxiety Test!

The Anxiety Test was designed to help people explain the nature of their problem related to anxiety. You can print out the results and bring it with you on your next visit to the doctor€™s or therapist€™s. The doctor and therapist can log on and also take the test to assess its excellent quality. If you want to ask questions or comment about the site and/or the new, unique test, this is the place for it. Kudos gratefully welcomed Heartiest congratulations to Dr. Peter Farvolden, Trevor van Mierlo and JP Godmaire who worked together to design and put it together. I'm confident that many people will be helped. Melanie, Dave and I are thrilled to be a part of this team! -- Anne-Marie, Site Administrator This message was edited by am on 2-2-02 @ 5:51 AM
