I will quit

Rollingstone,

I think it’s great that you have a weekend with non-smokers coming up and that you are already planning on how you will deal with the upcoming work week.  It’s great to start thinking about a plan.  I identified the University as a weak place for me.  I would always have a smoke after reading something intense or working on a tough paper.  So I made an emergency pack that I take to University every day.  I have a lunch kit filled with carrot sticks, almonds, an apple, a water bottle, and enough money to treat myself to a coffee on a break.  I also put a crossword puzzle in or Sudoku puzzle, a novel and a journal.  These provide great distractions when the cravings get really tough.  When I go to school, I take regular breaks outside.  I realize that I enjoyed the smoke not so much for the smoke but for the time outdoors.

I must say, however, that you seem to be in a tough situation.  You are in limbo between quitting and not-quitting.  I think that this is a much tougher place to be in than being a smoker or being a non-smoker.  You can do this.  Think about all the reasons you want to quit.

Hey Weekenders.....

Charm,

I definitely fall into the weekend lurking group.  I love playing solitare but sadly I think the days I used to play card games with actual cards as become a foggy memory.  Although the time spent with my 5 year old nephew, has made me a pretty sharp Go Fish player.  Your suggestion of playing a board game solo gave me a much needed laugh

Here's my weekend additions:
1. Looking up cheap flights and vacation packages to all the places I would love to go once I am done University.
2. Filling out christmas cards.  I like to send everyone x-mas cards with little notes and this usually takes me a while to do.  So I need to start early.
3. Making great dinners....tonight Eggplant parmisan w/ a green salad!
4. Reading a text book while having a bath.....this way I can trick myself that I am not actually doing school work but relaxing.
5. Enjoying a cup of tea with a favorite book or crossword.  I have been going to a tea house every couple of weeks to treat myself to some new kind of tea......I love lavender earl grey and mango mate (great caffeine substitute)

Anything that distracts me from smoking and my looming school deadlines.

Bad sleep and itchy skin

Jewels,

Congrats on surviving hell week!

I experienced similar symptoms.  I had nightmares and night sweats.  It seems to be a symptom that some quitters experience.  If you search old posts for sleep problems, you will get a whole bunch of stories and advice.  I am on day 22 and have gone from nightmares and night sweats to sleeping 12 hours a night.

My skin has also been extremely itchy.  I contributed this to the change in weather.  The cold weather usually dries out my skin.  But, maybe it is caused by the quit.  Has anyone else experienced this while quitting?

Cheers

Just a thought

Duffis,

This quote is so true!  Its almost exhausting how prepared I have to be each day of this quit but it has been well worth it.

Thanks for the reminder

Bad sleep and itchy skin

Jewels,

You are doing amazing! Just one minute or one second at a time.  I can totally relate, I am sure alot of people here can.  I feel like the past 22 days have been an emotional rollercoaster.  One moment I am on top of the world telling myself how easy this quit is, and the next I am overcome by intense cravings.  Sometimes these cravings make me cry, sometimes they make me scream, sometimes they make me numb....but they always go away.

I have been glued to this site for the past 22 days.  I spend my time reading old posts and new posts, writing my thoughts and feelings in my craving journal, and posting my feelings on here.  This has helped a lot.

I read this one post (but I cannot remember where it is...if I find it I will repost it!) of a letter that one person gave to their children, husband, friends when they quit.....which set out a list that explained what it is like to quit smoking and to ask for patience during this process.  Does anyone remember where this post is?   It may be helpful to have something like this to give to your husband.

You can do this!

Hey Weekenders.....

Peteg,

Your posts always make me smile.  I was too lazy to change all the clocks, so all day I suffered from time confusion

P.S. According to the newspaper, daylight savings was the United States idea (and Canada followed suit).  Its pretty crazy the debates surrounding day light savings.....who knew time could be so controversial?
